Autozone was the only place in my area that was able to even get an alternator for my car, besides Honda which was like $330. O'reilly's can't order them. Regardless of where you get it, the only place that can test it is Honda (Oreilly's nor Autozone had the proper connectors to test mine). I would go with the autozone one IF you can't find a junkyard. On the other hand I've had to warranty my Autozone alternator twice within 7 months. OEM is always better.

I dont understand why only honda can test your alternator. All alternators are mainly the same, you have a positive connection and a ground connection. and autozone uses a VAT to test batteries, starters and alternators so it should work just fine. even hand held battery/alternator testers work. all that is done to test the alternator with the vat is the machine is hooked to the battery for power, then an amp probe is usually placed around the alternator positive wire and you usually run the car at 2000 RPM and the machine measures the alternator output.

anyway, just get the basic one from autozone and make sure it comes with a warranty.

I was talking about the alternator being off the car.. sorry I didnt clarify that. At the time that I needed my alt tested, the car wasnt in "good" running condition so I pulled the alt out to have it tested. They could have tested it with the alternator in the car.
