01 Civic LX w/82,000 miles, regular scheduled maintainance, oil change no mods on right now back to stock for a little.
K i drove from Palm Beach, FL to Jacksonville and switched cars to NC, neways on the way back i was about 20 mins from da crib when the car throws a CEL. So I pull over at the next exit stop at the gas station, checked under the hood to find some collant splattered up on my stock intake big black box thingy and coolant spill on the subframe and on the battery. Got home finally, turn the car off disconnected the battery and left the hood open in the garage till this morning. Started the car no CEL, so i run to the store and no CEL, on the way back CEL pops up checked under the hood no new spilling cuz i wiped it all up b4 i left. I when im almost at a full stop the car rattles just enuff to notice. I NEED HELP....S.O.S.

well first off check what the cel means. if you dont have a code reader, alot of places will scan for free. Is your temp gauge going above normal? if it is, you have serious problems. I can tell you more, but I need to know what the code is. How high was the coolant level in the tank before it overflowed? It could be something simple like a bad radiator cap or something more serious.
auto zone, advanced auto parts, and most big discount auto parts stores will check your engine light for you....sometimes you can get lucky and honda will do it for free(was getting a free car wash and they noticed it and scanned it for me, like i was gonna let them fix it....dumbasses)

well it was a bad head gasket...and there pretty foking expensive for how small they are and wut they do. But I flush my radiator while i was at it too, but then i noticed alot of oil and dirty mixture built up on the bottom of the block... i dunno.... CEL went away too... but next is tranny flush cuz its starting to get reddish
did you do any work previously to the car or anyone else...maybe changing the thermo and improperly installed gasket or didnt install it at all.....and oil/dirt mixture on bottom of block...like near the oil pan where the drain plug is??

15-20 for oem denso (i believe they are denso)....less if you go to a local auto store like pep boys, autozone, advance auto parts
if your still having the problem with coolant going to the over flow i would start by checking the radiator cap what determines what coolant goes there....how much coolant did you use when you filled up your system you might of not used enough leading to air which leads to more pressure....did you bleed the system????
if you drained the entire system you should of used bout a lil more than a gallon....just your radiator i think is half of that..what i do when i just flush my radiator is drain it....pour it into a clear container than i know at least that much is going back...bleed the system and fill to neck.....fyi your radiator cap should test between 14-18psi

how much coolant did you put in...to properly bleed it you pour up to the filler neck, turn on car...squeeze upper radiator hose...then fill...repeat this till no squeezing no longer produces air
edit.....***first fill up you resovoir to the max line...than do the radiator

ok last night i went to the mountains for some togueing with some of the buddy's.
i was runing the car hard between 5,000- to redline in 2 gear, half way up we stoped to let the cars cool down and rest for a bit at that point the temp gauge was normal at that time, i got out of my car i left the car on and the heater runing so it could cool down right. after about 5-10mins we were ready to have at it some more so i got in my car and looked at the gauges and thee temp was about 75% up form normal i was like ****.
so i just dissided to just chill going up, the temp went back to normal when i was driveing the rest of the way up, when we got to the top it started to heat up agen so i turned the car off and left my fans on to cool it off,
after i started it back up after about 2hrs or so the motor was cold to the touch i let it idel to see if it got hot but it stade at the normal temp so i was like ok cool so i pushed it hard down the mountain then we let the cars cool at the bottom of the mountian. temp was ok this time
then this morning i went to see if i could see anything poped my hood and coolant all over the motor next to the intake battery so i was like ok on leaks or anything like that. so i filled it up.
so i bought a new rad cap hopeing it work.
anything eles it could be????

but wouldent i get a coolent leak from a blown head gasket it looked like the spuing was coming form the rad cap area...
and it seames to warm up faster in the mornigs know.
and wouldent the coolent be like a brown color if it was a blown HG

if you're worried get a compression test and coolant system presssure check. my guess is it just got too hot and coolant kept flowing into the reservoir until finally it started spilling out. you're prolly fine.

just loosen the drain bolt, drain coolant, squeeze upper hose til most comes out, then fill new til rad is full. harder part is bleeding the air out. you gotta start car cold with rad cap off, warm to temp, let all the bubbles come out, then you're done.
