I have an automatic transmission on my '02 EX coupe and while accelerating normally, the transmission seems to slip between 2nd and 3rd gears. It happens consistently no matter what the temperature is or humidity. The transmission has almost a full 2 seconds going into 3rd gear which is considerably longer than the others. But if you lay the pedal to the floor, the transmission just flows like its supposed to.
Do I need to change the transmission fluid? Or is it something mechanical going out? Please help me out guys. I really don't want to pay a *** load of money for this if I can fix it myself.

1. check the tranny fluid. is it at the proper level and what color is it. Make sure to follow the proper intsructions for checking the tranny fluid, I some car require the car to be in park while other want the car warm, but off, check the owners manual, it will tell you. The fluid should be a red/pink color.
2. If you nothing appears wrong, you can do a tranny flush, or what sort of it you can do on this car. You can not completely change the fluid, but you can take some of the old out and put some new in. Chances are if #1 is okay, this wont do much, but it's worth a try.
3. If none of this works, chances are your clutch plates are slipping, it is some what common on this model of civic with an auto. Unfortually this requires the tranny be torn appart to fix, which mean lots of money. Fortunatly, Honda has been helping people out with this problem, so if you get to this point, take to a Honda dealer, have them diagnose the problem. Then call Honda of America and complain, and see if you can get them to help pay for this. They will not consider paying untill it has been looked at by a Honda dealer though. Also, do not get the work done untill Honda of America says they are willing to help pay for the rebuild, because if for some reason they decide not to, you can probably find a far cheaper place to do the work.
BTW, if you end up adding fluid to your tranny, get Honda's ATF (automatic tranmsion fluid), others on here have had bad results with other brands.
