Alright got a new tranny today, just replacing auto with auto since the current one is bad.
need help on removing the axles from the tranny, I can't get them to just pull right out like on most cars. is there something special you have to do???
also can the tranny be pulled out from under the car? with the motor still in?
how would/did you do it?
Thanks a lot, Mike

Thanks man, we figured it out.
they do just pop out but they were being a pain.
the subframe does NOT need to drop to pull the axles out.
however the subframe does need to drop to get the tranny out from under neath.
got the new one in and all with little difficulty but couldn't test the damn thing because I didn't have any tranny fluid and apparently you could only get it at honda.

i apologize if this is a stupid question, but can i replace my auto tranny with a manual? i have an 01 lx auto and i need a new tranny since mine would cost $2250 to fix. i'm looking for a used one but i'm not sure if it has to be exactly the same tranny (same year, model, or transmission). thanks!

it's not a stupid question, if you look people will tell you everytihng you need to do,
IMO it is easier to put a 5-speed in the car then to put in a new auto tranny,
you will need the following parts:
Tranny
Axles (5-speed ones are stronger and a lil different)
shifter linkage and lever and all that stuff
pedal assembly
in an LX you will need to drill the holes for the clutch pedal but it's not that hard.
hope this helps you could do the whole thing if you look for 1K
tranny-400
axles-250
shifter linkage & pedals-100
should get a new clutch -250
