Cleared headlights having blowout issue?
Cleared headlights having blowout issue?
So far I end up raplacing my headlights every 4 months or so. I have cleared headlights that I sealed better than stock. Never any moisture, condensation, fogging, whatsoever in any condition. I put in Silverstar headlights because I love the output and they do not take a lot of wattage. But every so often I flip the switch and one of the lights will just flash and thats it. The filaments are busted so I buy another one for $20 and pop it in. I have been through about 3 sets so far.
I went to the dealership and asked them about the recall (since NHTSA has a recall for this) and they told me that the headlight was cleared so it may be a condensation issue?!?!?!?!? I told him that there is no way because it did this before I cleared them and that they are sealed extremely well. My harnesses are fine but could it be the switch that is powersurging causing the light to blow? If so it is a recall and I have the warranty so a Silverstar headlight shouldnt cause this problem.

to me its sounds like your combination switch, but I dont think that it causes the filiments to bust, but I am not sure. Try putting in regular halogen bulbs and see if they last awhile. If they do, then it may not be the combination switch, but it may be the bulbs. Also do you know the wattage of those bulbs?

It says 65/55 so if anythings it 65 max which really shouldnt have much of an effect being only 10watts more. If so then Honda's electrical sucks cause I had 100W bulbs in my Saturn no problem.

oem lasts longest. Except the Mtec halogen bulbs. They last for along time as well.
But silverstars will blow out on you a lot more often than stock. sucks

blue coated bulb = garbage. And they're not even as bright as oem. I'm thinking about getting osram silverstar but might not be legal. Lot more light, clear bulb, but looks like usa silverstar.
but anyway, yea have the combo switch replaced under recall.

gearbox so you had it replaced and have had no issues since? I am really pressing to get it replaced. Like I said my Saturn took a 100W Naxos bulb fine. But the Silverstar def. puts out more light than stock. Not to mention that droning yellow glow from a stock light makes me wanna fall asleep. Its funny when some cars with HIDs pull up next to me and our light patterns put almost the same amount of brightness on the road.

actually they keep sending me notice, but I never got it fixed, bc my last cool blue bulbs lasted 2 years. I'm now using clear philips vision plus and so far so good. silverstar may look whiter, but it does not put out as much lumens as stock clear. how could it with coating that blocks light? If you want brighter, get the upgraded wire harness. But that won't fix the combo switch problem.
