RPM is dropping while driving

ok my auto civic is acting up. when im driving and steping on the gas the rpm is going up normal. but as soon as i let off on the gas the rpm needle drops down immediately to like around 1200 rpm and stays there. and during this time im going like about 80km so thats not the normal rpm for that speed. does anybody know whats wrong or any idea i'm bring it into the shop tmw to find out.

isn't that normal? if it's not, idle problems can be caused by a dirty throttle body or messed up sensors.

the thing is im not idling during the times the drop happens, im going like 80km/h so rpm should be around 2600 when im let off on the gas but instead it drops really low. i did recently clean engine bay recently could that be it?

i thought most autos placed in D will have the rpms drop after letting off the gas except in top gear highway driving.

ya it did drop before too but it was like a big drop like it is now. now its drops from 3000rpm to 1200 in a matter of a second of letting go of the gas.

let me know what speed you're driving at and how low it drops. I can do the same and let you know if my car is any different. But i'm pretty sure the rpms drop fast cause you are letting go of the throttle and its basically like at idle.

ok well i brought to the shop and the guy took a drive with me and funny thing is it didn't happen while he was in the car with me watching. but he said if it's something the check engine light would go on.

ok im on the hwy going about 80km/hr and as soon as i let go of the gas the rpm drops to 1100 at that crusing speed.

i tried at that speed and the rpms don't really drop more than 200 or so. Not anywhere near as low as 1100. They stay around 2000.

is your throttle cable tight enough? too tight or too loose causes problems. Try cleaning the throttle body. If its dirty, it may be sticking slightly. Otherwise it could be a sensor like tps.
