Growling noise from back of engine

I have searched for awhile and none of the old posts quite describe my problem. I have a growling noise inside the car when it is moving. If I roll down the windows you can't hear it. It gets extremely loud above 50MPH and stays at the same volume/pitch at least to 90MPH. The noise gets quieter as I slow the car and can be heard to about 15 MPH. The noise doesn't change volume/ pitch with RPM's or clutch engaged/ disengaged, and it does not matter what gear the car is in. I thought it might be tire noise so I put the car on jack stands and ran it. You can still hear it in the car and can hear it outside with the hood up. There isn't any noticable noise if you spin the wheels by hand. I've also tried the A/C on and off with no change. I checked the fluid level in the tranny to see if that might be it. it was full.

I am about out of options, and any help would be great.

Sounds like a baring, probably a wheel baring or something in the back. Could also be a brake, but then you would have some sort of pulling.

I tried pulling off the rotors last night to look at the bearings and cracked my socket trying to take off the axle nut.

Well I think this will be my final post on the subject, unless something actually breaks, or gets louder. First off I drained and refilled the manual transmission. Honda parts said it would take 3 quarts, it only gave and took about 1.5. I pulled off both wheels again and started looking for the noise. Inside the car - especially near the firewall inside it was noticeable. Once you went outside the car/ under the car/ under the hood it was sort of a vague growling coming from somewhere. The wife said it started a couple of weeks ago, and since I have been looking the sound hasn't gotten worse. I followed the exhuast down and under the car, no luck there. I still can't get the rotors off to check the wheel bearings since I busted my socket for the axle nut.
