starting trouble?

Every once in a while for no reason I start the car and it cranks forever like 10 times before starting. Usually it takes 3 cranks and starts right up.

Yea mine does it, sometimes its when I wake up in the morning or when the car has been in a parking lot. I think it might have something to do with the cold. It seem to crank a lot then start. I dunno why it does it either.

Naw not low gas, it just randomly happens...its very strange. My friend with a 03 honda accord v6 6spd sometimes has the problem too. Guess its a honda thing, maybe the supplied battery is just bearly capable?

You sure its not the Immobilizer? Sometimes mine will crank over but not start. When it does this I look at the green Immobilizer light and usually its flashing. If it is, all I do remove the key for a few seconds then try again. I put the key in, turn it to the ACC position for a few seconds so the fuel pump can pressurize the system then it starts right up. Doesnt happen alot, but occassionally.

mine does that sometimes too. i can hear the starter try to start the car but it wont. when that happens, i just take out the key and try again... it usually starts after that.

First thing to do is turn the key to "ON" which is one notch before start for a few secs till you hear that little buzzing stop. This way the car has time to get itself ready. then turn to "START" and you should start up faster. just calm down and you wont have any problems.

turn it to the ACC position for a few seconds so the fuel pump can pressurize the system then it starts right up. Doesnt happen alot, but occassionally.
turn the key one more click to ON then after thats pressurized let it start .

Mine just did it tonight when i got off work! I think it may have something to do with the temp not neccessarily cold! Mine did it when it was hot too! I think it also may have to do with how fast you turn the key in the ignition! I believe the igintion doesnt have enough time to read the microchip in the key and therefore it will only partially crank the starter i think! correct me if im wrong but right after it kept cranking and cranking and wouldnt start i pulled the key out of the ignition completely and put it back in slowly and turned the key slowly and it started up just fine!

well today for me.. it was a rainy day, my friend asked me to drive her home, so we get into my car, i put the key into the ignition, and all of a sudden i lost all power. i couldnt turn on my lights, no radio, nothing. so i got a lil ticked off and confused about why my honda let me down. the odometer went crazy, everything in my car was reset, didnt get anyworse then that. after a while i got my car to start n i was off. it was just a little strange to me bout how that happend. it couldnt have been because the key was wet when i put it in, or the cold condition..

Hahaha ur telling me about embarrasing, I just started driving stick...I've stalled a few times, peeled out a few times, and twice accidentally forgot to pull the parking brake...thats very embarrasing. Oh and another time I turned the ignition while the car was on, damn hondas are too quite (is that bad for the engine) .

mine did that today. low on gas with colder temps = condensation in my gas tank. either that or bad gas.

Have you guys read your Civic quick start guides, if you got one with your Civic?

It says clearly that sometimes it may take longer to start because the "engine management software is working to reduce emissions at startup."

And like some people have mentioned, you can get around this (sometimes) by turning your key to "on" for a few seconds before you start it.

my starter went out at 52000miles just changed it last week, my damn flywheel is chewed up. it started doing some of the things u guys are talking about , not starting and stuff, mine started making grinding noises then eventually stopped working altogehter in a span of like 3 days.
