Daytime Running Lights...

I have daytime running lights, and and I hate it, cause I have to buy new lights like every 3 months... It was factory installed... I was wondering if anyone knew how to take them out... or what fuse I pull... something... how do I get rid or them without going to a shop... that's all... Thanks.

just pull the fuse.

But usually there should be a way to turn them off. My moms camry has DRL and she can turn them off with the headlight switch.

I've had DRL on my car for years and they're still on the original bulbs. Perhaps you are buying poor quality bulbs? You can unplug the DRL module under the dash if it really bugs you that much but I'm sure you'll trigger an error code and the DRL diagnostic light on the dash will light up constantly.

You have to remove the DRL fuse from the underdash fuse box. My car (like all Canadian cars) came with DRLs, but I have disabled mine. Can't remember exactly which fuse it was that I removed, but it was labeled as DRL.

Depending on what the laws are where you live, you may not want to do this because it is illegal. DRL is a proven safety feature designed to reduce the probability of somebody colliding with your car. If you disable it you may be ticketed, or not pass a vehicle inspection.

Yea, just removing the fuse, you will disable the whole drl system. The only reason you should, is if you have just a low beam HID system in your vehicle, because it will/could wreck the bulb, or the electronics, seeing how as you have NO high beams. Otherwise I would leave it in. My bulbs havent gone out from that yet. It runs at like 2.5% wattage anyways.

It has nothing to do with fog or darkness. Drivers and pedestrians can more easily distinguish a running and moving car with lights on from a car without lights on. Here is a summary of the findings of daytime running lights. If you look at note #5, daytime running lights do not significantly shorten bulb life. It is easier to implement as a safety measure if it doesn't require any action on the driver's part.

As to why it is mandatory in Canada? I have no explanation for that other than the fact we implemented the system after looking at European findings before the US.

IMO, DRLs make people not think about turning on their full headlights when they need to (ie. raining, snowing, foggy, etc.). I see far too many idiots driving with just their DRLs in these conditions. Instead of the DRL laws we have, we should instead have stricter laws regarding using your full headlights in certain conditions.

Nothing irks me more than people driving in adverse conditions without full headlights on. However, such laws do exist in British Columbia under the Motor Vehicle Act. They're just not striclty enforced. People who drive with only DRL on in fog, or rain, don't realize that it doesn't turn on their tail lights. They're effectively only seen in one direction in bad weather.

NJ law requires drivers to turn on their headlights when ever they have to engage the windshield wipers.

Yeah I know, I've noticed that in a lot of U.S. states (Pennsylvannia is the one I remember actually seeing a sign), but unfortunately no such laws exist here in Ontario, Canada, so all the idiot drivers drive around with their DRLs or no lights at all in the rain, snow, etc.

Canada gets DRLs because they are required by Transport Canada law here for all cars, unlike in the U.S. where there are no DRL laws.
