Question AC problem

My air conditioner on my 2001 coupe (48k mile) quit working, the green light comes on when i push the AC button, but it would not cool and i don't hear the compressor come on and off like it used too. All the fuses seem to be okay, except for the fact that i couldn't locate a specific fuse for the AC in the panel under the steering wheel. Naturally i'm thinking my compressor has a problem and i got one for cheap on ebay ($30). Can any one show me how to replace the compressor with pictures and tips. thanks in advance

btw did u even diagnose the problem...maybe its not the compressor

maybe its the connector to the magnetic coil???
maybe u have low refer

look into it before u change into a parts changer

like koolaidman said, you need to diagnose it. Does it blow air, or does it not blow air? You need to hook up a set of manifold gauges to the high and low side and see what the static pressure is with the AC off, then see what the pressures are when the AC is running on high, and at 1500-2000 rpm.

You could have several problems. Bad compressor, bad field coil, bad clutch, maybe getting now power to the feild coil, low refrigerant which means you have a leak somewhere, bad thermostatic switch, could be anything.

ya but u still need to hook up some gauges to know whats really going on

go buy a 100 set of guages hook them up tell me high press and then low pressure should be arround 75 psi on both ends if not its low

run the system max cool and recirculate tell me whats the high side and then the low side
dont remember numbers off hand but when u do ill tell u if its good or not

with out doing this....U WILL NOT FIND THE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!

While the car is idling, have someone turn on the AC while you watch the compressor and its pulley.
- If you can hear a click and see the pulley speed change then the problem is probably the compressor. Have it service professionally.
- If there is no click sound and the pulley speed does not change the problem probably is a fualty magnetic clutch, or its wiring, or its relay.

To check the AC clutch: Turn AC on and off and listen for clicking sound coming from the compressor pulley.

To check the relay: Locate the relay. Turn the AC On and Off and listen to see if the relay turns on and off (clicking sound).

To check the wiring: Locate the AC compressor and visually inspect the cable coming off of it for sign of damage.

listenin for the clicking sound is only half correct
use known good relay to check...if plug it in and cold air comes out its the relay...

75 PSi on the low side is too high. It would be ok with the car off for static pressure, where both are within 10 PSi or so, but when the A/C is running, that is too high. Should be between 25-50 PSI.
