blown transmission!

hey guys, i have a 03 ex AT with 16,000 miles on it. i was driving on the highway about 15 minutes and i noticed that my car started reving after 4 rpms. At first i thought it was ice or something and i was just getting no traction. but after a while, when i left the toll boths and stuff my car would start reving at like 3 rpms and not shifting to the next gears.. this was kind of a problem since i was on the highway and couldn't get up to speed. Then my transmission lights come on so i pull over. i wait for road side assistance for a while then decide to try to drive to the next exit and find a auto shop.. i end up going to a local honda dealership. They said that my transmission fluid looks like motor oil and that the internals were messed up. They said they've never seen anything like that and asked if i drove the car really hard. I said no, and honestly i don't.. no neutral dropping or anything like that. I got my car towed back to a local dealership where i live. So i guess they have to order me a "remanufactured" tranmission which will take 1-2 weeks to get. Since there was no accident my insurance won't pay for a rental car !!! is there anyway i can get one from honda or something or should the insurance cover it? Also, anyone have any idea of how this happened to my transmission? makes me MAD! i wish i could manual swap it but then it won't be paid for.

also, i dont know if they are related, but i changed my oil the night before from 5w-30 to 5w-20. I had 5w-30 in there because that is what my manual said, but the cap says 5w-20 and u guys on here said that is waht we're supposed to use so i switched it. I don't think my problem had anything to do with the oil, cuz wouldn't the engine had problems also or before the transmission? I checked the oil and it was between the holes... so i dont think it was a problem. It just got me scared because i dont' want to be the one that caused this!

unless you accidentally put the motor oil the the transmission fluid that wouldnt have hurt anything. your insurance wont pay for a rental unless it is a covered accident or claim. you might be able to get honda to give you one since if they are covering it under the warranty. if they dont, complain about it enough and usually the service manager will work it out. otherwise you should be able to go to enterprise and get a small car for 20 bucks. sorry it happend, hope it works out.

i dunno guys its pretty hard to screw up the oil drain plug position. the tranny plug is by the subframe and u need a 1/2 ratchet to get it open, and i would hope he'd notice the somewhat red fluid. yur transmission should be covered under warranty. i just got mine checked out and i'm gettin a brand new transmission from honda under warranty at 33,500 miles and i drive it like hell.

i'm sure i didn't! if i did, then wouldn't my engine blow up or something with no oil in it? Plus, i checked the oil reader thing and it checked perfect. So wouldn't it have read no oil if i poured it in the wrong place? I put it in the thing that says 5w-20!!!!!!!! i've changed my oil many times.. I"M just questioning myself cuz of what happened!!! if the transmission drain thing is has hard to get to as u say, then i definately didn't mess that up. You think that honda will give me a rental if i ask nicely?

i'm lowered on neuspeed race springs with 205/50/15 tires and my car is like the lowest it can be to get on a lift.. my front lip scraped on the way up and my exhaust did too! getting the thing off of the lift, my exhaust tip (apexi ws) was like smashed into my bumper! i dont think there is any damage or anything though, i wish i had coilovers so i could adjust it and such

Bitch and complain. It usually works. Threaten to write to Honda for selling you a lemon or something. I do it. I get rental cars...well, my dad does. Then I just use his Toureg while he uses the rental

like that will happen. That is like having a corvette and asking for a ferrari as a rental car from the dealer.

It all depends on the dealer. Some if you spend a good amount of money, they will give you a loaner car.

does anyone know what may have caused my transmission to get messed up? they said the transmission fluid was burnt and stuff. But normally, don't transmissions start to slip a little and get worse and worse? I drove it that morning and the night before and it was fine. then it just blows up out of no where on the highway at low rmps!

When the man said "sh#t happens" he wasn't kidding.
There are so many valves and stuff in autos that any one can cause what happened. I usta rebuild them and was always amazed they would keep working in the first place!

I dont know if they are built differently. I as assuming they are. I havent made it to my auto tranny class at school yet, so I really dont know what to expect from them. And I didnt talk much to the tech, he just bascially said there is alot of **** to put together. All I know is having shifttronic is basically having a auto tranny with a manual tranny.

how can u have a auto tranny with a manual tranny! cuz i know if ur keeping a regular auto in d1 or d2 and keeping the rpms high and stuff, ur asking for trouble.. however, it seems like that wouldn't be a problem for a shifttronic tranny because it seems like u would use it to slow down and stuff... however doesn't a shifttronic tranny handle boost just as bad as a regular auto?

it is basically called paddle shift. On the shifter you have P, R, N, D. there is no d1 and d2. Now when you are in drive you can drive normally and the tranny shifts. Now if you want to have basically manual tranny, you slap the shifter to the left and look on the dash to see the D go to 1 which means 1st gear. As you go the car wont shift untill you slap it again into second, then 3rd, then 4th. It is just like a manual. And you get more speed out of it. Pretty much every mercedes is either supercharged or turbocharged. When driving them, you can here the turbo or super charger spool up.

i know how it works.. i was just asking why a shifttronic one can handle drivin at high rmps like if u put it in second gear and stuff and take turns hard.. while a regular auto if u put it in d2 or something and slow down with it and take hard turns at high rmps, its bad for the tranny. my friend has a c240 with shiftronic, it shifts for you if u forget to in the shiftronic mode instead of hitting the rev limiter
