Auto Shift Mechanism Problems

OK so the mechanism that keeps you from shifting into gear without having the brake pushed down keeps clicking on and off randomly when my car is in park and it keeps killing the battery. Any ideas why. Could it be caused from doing a ground wire upgrade in the engine bay.
