Whats up. Im new to this board. I joined this week. I have a 2003 civic ex, with a V2 AEM intake, DC Sport Headers, TYC Tail Lights, 18" Konig Flatlines. Ill get a pic soon. But right now im having a problem with my tranny. Whenever i go to shift into 3rd gear at high rpms it grinds. unless i push the clutch all the way in then wait about 30 seconds then shift very slowly. If you got any suggestions or info let me know! Id appreciate it. Thanks

it's a problem with every tranny ever. 3rd gear is the most grinded gear out of any gear, imo.

Try changing to Redline MTL. Honda will blame any and all mods you did to your car for the problem. Many people have had good success with Redline MTL.

when i had my 01 ex i had the neuspeed short shift adapter and thats the only time i would ever grind into third gear...even tho it happened only a few times. i think you may not be putting the clutch in far enough. try focusing on putting the clutch in more when ur winding ur motor up high. in my si, i have to concentrate on throwing the clutch all the way in while goin into second when shifting hard cause of the way honda made those trannys ( almost all of them grind when shifting hard into second gear). they're **** transmissions

yea thanks for all the suggestions. its been happening for a while and im def im pushing the clutch in all the way. i know some technicians that work for honda
and im prolly gonna have one of them look at it. one said im most likely looking at a
whole new 3rd gear and sychro. but the worst of it all is i wont have my car for about a week. how much am i looking at if i want to get a new aftermarket tranny?

On upshifts, what happens if you clutch in put the car in neutral and then clutch out. then clutch in then shift to third?

On down shifting have you tried rev matching before shifting along with double declutching.

Tried it! Still grinds going into 3rd at high rpm! Any other suggestions? Befor I take it to the service department.

I'm no expert but I'm guessing you damaged your gear. When did it happen? If you shift in lower RPMS does it change fine? I've accidently grinded my gears a few times in high rpms, I guess I need to be careful as well.

Nah, it shifts fine in low rpm, im gonna take it in next week to get it fixed. I cant wait to have a good feeling tranny again. It started happening about 3 months ago. I just took it easy and tried not to grind it as much. Thanks for all the suggestions you guys kick

My 03 ex always grinds when I shift into 3rd at 2nd gear redline. It has always done this. It will always do this. I try not to redline 2nd unless I have to.

yeah 3rd gear for me too on my 04..
