Civic 2002 Manual Transmition Users
Hi guys,
I have a question for you all. I have civic coupe 2002 with manual transmition. My clutch has annoying sound when I push down the clutch. The sound is appearing only when push down (stretching the spring of the clutch). Is this the same problem with you guys 2002 civic manual transmition user? If so, is there any solution ?
Thanks alot

Well, My clutch pedal made squeaking noise, do not know if its the same sound as yours. But i just brought in to the dealer, and they lubricated and sound was gone for few months, and the problem came back, so just driving with that sound.
There shouldn't be any sound, so take it in to the dealer and let them find the problem.

I actually took my car in for the same problem. The stupid clutch sound. They lubricate it, yeah, but, it comes back after a couple of weeks. They ordered a "master cylinder or cluth cylinder" whatever that is, and I need to wait for them to call me saying to bring it in. But, I have the SAME problem. Its soo annoying. I feel you dude.

I had that problem this past winter with my clutch pedal. I used some white lithium grease, as was suggested in another thread; I worked the grease in the "return spring" (I think that's what it's called), and after a while, the squeak went away. I just reapply it every now and then; it's been about 6 months since I last applied the grease.
my clutch makes clicking noise only, no squeaking noise for mine.
it makes kinda of "double clicking noise" lol when i release it.
i wonder if it is caused by master cylinder or clutch cylinder.
i've brought this in for 3 times or so.
dealer said its no big deal and told me to deal with it.
and they said me "at least, you made a record"
well..i dont care about record or shietty, i just wanna get rid of that noise.
when i checked another civic on their lot, it didnt make any noise at all.
but they dont try to fix mine still.

Well, I'm not exactly sure if "return spring" is really the correct term -- I'm assuming the thread I read it in was referring to the spring that causes the clutch pedal to bounce back up when you release it by taking your foot off of it.
If I remember correctly, you will have to remove a plastic cover plate (it's right under the coin drawer) by turning two ****-type catches and pulling down. Once that's off, you can look up under the dash -- just follow the clutch pedal upward, and you'll see a kind of hinge joint. I smeared as much grease as I could onto the spring inside the hinge.
I'll try to take a pic, but it's kinda hard to squeeze my big self up under there...

I've had that same problem for the last year. It seems to happen only when the weather gets cold (I live in Denver). The squeaking usually only stays around for a day or so then it disappears. The more annoying noise is the "click" or "thump" noise when I push in the clutch pedal. Once the car warms up, the noise usually disappears. I've taken it to the dealer three times already and they couldn't duplicate the sound (it figures!). They probably think I'm an annoying customer with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder by now, so I just gave up. At this point my car drives fine and the clutch engages properly so I'm guessing the noise is coming from the paneling beneath the footrest or up against the firewall. DAMN, that noise is aggravating though!!!!!!

It happens on mine and my 03 Si. Lubricating it does help for a while, Ive found turning the radio up works alot better though.

Mine does the same thing. It used to squeak but since I just put in a new transmission now it's coming back. I have solved the problem by installing a 12" Audiobahn sub in the trunk.
ive been told its usually the clutch pedal. theres a technical service bulletin ive
read and they also diagnose this as the spring in the master cylinder. corrective action is to replace the master cylinder and lubricate the clutch line fitting with
a specific silicone grease. this is also something my lazy *** needs to do because it is very annoying.

My problem was more of a creeking sound and only during pushing in the clutch and wouldn't creek when the clutch came back up. I took it to the dealer to fix and they repacked the master cylinder and lubricated the linkage or something but that never fixed the problem.
I ended up fixing it myself by spraying some white lithium grease on clutch return spring. I'm not sure if that's what it's called but it is located up and behind the clutch pedal and there's a circular metal opening with a big ball bearing in it that moves towards the engine through the firewall when the clutch is depressed. It looks like it may be the physical hydrolic engage for the clutch, but I don't know what it's actually called.
It hasn't made a noise since and it goes in smoother than before now :-)
