windshield molding

I bought a used civic ex coupe in january. Recently i have noticed that the molding around the windshield was done poorly and starting to come undone, so I bring it into the dealership and ask for it to be replaced, and they inform me that because it is an aftermarket windshield that they can't do anything about it. (obviously it was replaced by the previous owner)

Is this true? Even though they sold me the car like that? And while i realize all I have to do is "chip" the window in order to have it replaced by insurance, I would rather just the dealership or somebody take care of it. also is their anyway that my insurance company will know who replaced the windshield? Thanks for your help

There is a TSB regarding loose windshild moldings on 01 civics.
If you bought it as a Honda certified pre-owned vehicle, they should have fixed it.

Its not the original molding though. Whoever owned the car last broke the windshield and had someone else replace... thanks for the help though

Oh.... not the original moldings either..... cause the moldings themselves have nothing to do with the windshield. Yep, you are out of luck. But, it's only a clip that attaches them, so you could look at it and see if it just needs to be tapped back in. It's a ratcheting sort of clip. Almost like a tie-wrap. You need to tap the molding with the palm of your hand to bump it into the clips.

Well, the side mouldings on the outside could come loose. But if you mean the bottom one where the windshield wipers are, welcome to the club. They ALL seperate and don't sit flush with the windshield.

the top right hand corner (driver side) is what is giving me the most problems. we'll see what happens. If the person who owned it before me got it fixed through his insurance company, would my insurance company have a record of it. ( i figured it was possible just so the company could know what the condition of the car was before i owned it

There is a 2 part clip at the top corners. One is metal, and slides into a dimple on the car itself to lock it into place. The other is plastic with saw-like teeth. It then grabs the metal clip to hold the molding. I had to remove mine, slide the metal clip all the way in to it's locked position and then put the molding back on.
It's been tight ever since.

But if you bought the car from a Honda dealer, they should fix this if you had any sort of warranty. Or did the sticker say "AS IS, NO WARRANTY" ??

God, Honda sucks sometimes for BS little details. It would take them all of 5 minutes to fix that.
