Help w/ friend's van

Hey everyone, a yesterday my friends van broke down and we're trying to figure out exactly what is the problem. It all happened after he made a right turn and drove a bit. Suddenly it felt as if the car braked and the car just stopped. We dont know if the brakes are malfunctioning or if his tranny is dead.. but we've tried every gear and the car just revs but doesnt move... it would move really really slow so its weird... when the engine is running, and we put it into neutral, we cant move it at all but if the car is off and we put it in neutral we can push it.. we've checked the fuses for abs and tranny in the car and in the engine bay.. any input would be greatly appreciated.. thanks

Sounds like the tranny. Did you check the fluid level? Always check the obvious things first.

Yeah I think it is the tranny too .. he said it had been leaking for awhile but he kept on adding more fluid to it so I didnt think that would be it... I guess that could be the problem... He's too cheap and lazy to fix the leak.. could excessive leaking cause the tranny to go bad?

Yes, if it keeps running low while driving.

alright thanks for the replies, we figured out that the tranny had gone bad... and that the car was bought used so we dont know what condition it was in.. the tranny oil pan was leaking alot cuz the gasket had broke but they couldnt replaced it cuz the bolts holding it up were stripped or seized in there so they were unable to get it fixed sooner. I guess he'll just have to get rid of the car or replace the tranny... is it worth it? its a 94 or 95 Plymouth Grand Voyager i believe...
