car wouldn't start after a wash

ok,

one morning i started up the car, let it idle for about 10 seconds then backed it out about 5feet, followed by putting it back in park again to let the car warm up for another 3 or so minutes while i hosed the car down with a water hose.

i spent about 5minutes spraying dust off of my already clean car.(it was about to rain and i'd rather spray away the dust than to let the rain pile up the dust and create ugly water marks.)

i had shut the engine off halfway through hosing the car off. i didnt spray water into the engine.

after finishing with the rinse, i tried to start the car again but it wouldn't. i heard the fuel pump building up fuel pressue and the car cranked but it wouldnt start up.

after letting the car sit for another 5 minutes, it started up but a little slower than usual.

anyone know what could have happened? what parts could have gotten wet? i didnt wash the engine or try to spray into the engine. this was the first time my car wouldnt start. it's 1.5years old and my car is basically bone stock. no CAI etc.

and if some electrical part did get wet, wtf was honda thinking when they designed it? all i did was give the car a quick rinse. it should be able to withstand much more water than that.

That's like not being able to start in the rain. Sounds like it may be a grounding problem. Hard to say tho. If might have just happened by chance. I know sometimes mine won't start for no reason. Then I try again and it starts. Cars are crazy.

i know of the other non-starting problems discussed before but i thought mine was a little different...hehe

the car started fine the first time. it's when i tried to start it again about 5 minutes later that it wouldnt.

btw, i forgot to mention that yes i waited more than 2seconds for the fuel pressure to build up. the car still wouldnt start. i also had about 40liters of gas in the tank

hmmm...if it's similar to the rain problem, what's the water doing that causing the car not to start? i couldnt figure that out. i wasnt wasing the engine. what electrical parts are located near the wheel wells? i think i might have sprayed my rims.

Maybe it was just coincidence that you were washing your car... but it happens too much at our shop... WE PUT AIR IN SOMEBODY'S TIRES and then the check engine light came on... "Our Fault" We rotated someones tires.. the brake pads is metal to metal.. "Our Fault"...

You see where im coming from? Get you're starting system checked from your battery to your alternator to your starter.. then go from there..

To me... it sounds like your battery is going.

the car is practically brand new....aprox 13,000kms...(i think that's less than 10,000miles)

oh well, the problem has not occurred again even when i tried hosing it down ...

thinking of selling the car though..figured that if i sell it now and get another car, i'd still be saving money because insurance on the civic is $1200 more than a protege5
