Engine Problem around 55K miles

My friend's had just blown his engine the other day and he only had about 55K on it. Then after that my other friend told me that the new Honda 2001+ engine aren't good, he said that one you hit around 50K, the transmission or some other thing start breaking down. Does anybody know if this is true? Anyone out there that has 50K mile on there car? If this is true, what can I do to prevent this?

Completely nonsense. D-series are very strong little engines.

The life of the engine always depends on the driver and how he/she maintains it (unless you seriously got a lemon).

Look at the previous generation civic; D16 motors and they pretty reliable. Honda wouldn't make them weaker for the next generation...

Slow and reliable.

Actually, your wrong the d17 engine n tranny are much weaker then the old gen, i know so many people who work @ HONDA, and they always tell me how the old d 16 was much stronger and can handle m uch more abuse then the new d17, the d17 tranny sucks too, if you rip the car at all, even if its not so often the tranny will have problems within 30 000 km...my friend is on his second tranny and second engine and hes got 35 000 KM, not miles...

Not trying to make this into a flame ball, but how can you explain catalyst (or other SF turbo owners) that run 11psi on a 100% pure stock motor? They have been boosting for a couple of thousand miles without problems.

But you seem to know more about previous civics than me, so you're probably right. hMm.. LOL i shouldn't have replied!

Trasmission wise:

-DEFINETELY add an tranny cooler (search in TECH or OTHER PRODUCTS AND PARTS sections). It will not only extend the life of your tranny, but also make it smoother.
I *heard* that a 20 degree increase in your tranny can cut its life by 50% (sounds a little exaggerated)

-Tranny fluid flush/exchange every 30,000 miles (Honda ATF only! Absolutely GOOD fluid. It's like $56 from the dealership... mechanic shops that use other crappy fluids charge $35-50)

-NO NEUTRAL DROPPING (For autos at least: revving the car in neutral and putting it into D while at high rpm is an big no no)

-And most obviously don't treat it like sh*t

I'm sure that there are more great tips out there

I have the manual trans in mine. But my 01 LX has 73,000 miles on the engine and it still runs "strong". I always take it easy intil the engine is full warmed up and then I drive it like I stole it for the most part. Seems to to holding real well considering the way I drive.

Yeah, that's what i do too, every morning i always warm up my car before i drive it, but i don't push the car all out, so hopefully mine will stay healthy. I heard that a stick trans last longer and have less problem than a auto. Does anyone kno if that's true?

Manual transmissions tend to last longer than automatic transmissions. Don't ask me why, that's just what I've always heard.

I've got 37K miles on my 02 EX MT, and my car is still running fine. And this is all within a year and a half. Of course, I always let it warm up before I start abusing it, but I only abuse it rarely. I guess it all depends on how the driver treats his car, from day to day.
