white powder stuff from steering wheel

Well...I think my civic is trying to self destruct. Last week its the alternator, now this...
For about a month Ive been noticing that theres this white stuff on my seat all the time, and I kicked my coke habit a year ago so I know its not that I always thought it was white lint ***** or something from my clothes, and never really paid much attention to it, but yesterday I realized its comming from where my steering wheel mounts to the base? if thats what you wanna call it.
Basically theres a 1/8" or so gap between the steering wheel and the base, and I looked inside and you can see where the steering wheel mounts and it appears to be comming from there. Im not having any problems with steering, or stiffness or anything. Just this powder crap.
Now ive been in accidents and had airbags deploy, so I know theres powder surrounding the airbag, but the a.b. module is completely sealed (according to honda) and so that should not be leaking out (also I would think the powder would come more from the steering wheel in that case instead of from where it mounts).
So now my guess is maybe its a gasket thats shredding? The little chunks do have a sort of rubbery texture to them.
What the hell else can it be? Has anyone had this happen? Its friggin annoying because every time i wear black pants I end up with white crap all over my knees.

Sounds like the bag to me. Maybe it wasn't properly sealed or something.

I would just take it to honda when you know for sure that some powder will drop out on their knees too..heh Maybe even take a black piece of cloth or something since the techs usually wear gray (at least at my dealer).

It might be left over powder from your old air bag.

I think he connected the release of the airbag in your prior car to the civic.

Anyhow, I just think the bag isn't sealed. I don't know how it would get out of the factory that way. Seems like they would extreme quality testing on those parts...

Are u the original owner of this car? If not, check under the dash. There might be a kilo of coke stashed under there from the previous columbian drug trafficker. BTW, get outta town, he might have gotten paroled and want his car back...

I guess I miss read your post, I though you said you were in a accident and the airbags deployed, I guess it was in a different car.
