Angry ABS?VSA and power steering lights on [solved]

I have read a bunch of forums and since the battery was old and tested marginal I went ahead and replaced it. I have a tester and battery and charging system look good.

They come on and go off and the only pattern is the seem to come on when we stop at a red light for a minute or more.
I have a basic code reader and no codes

Any suggestions to check? Car drives and stops perfect.

Any OBD reader suggestions that might pull more ABS type codes?

Thanks in advance, driving me nuts

re: ABS?VSA and power steering lights on [solved]

I did double check the battery terminals, they look new and in great shape for a car 9 years old.
Any other connection I should also look at? Its strange how they come and go off all the time.

Thanks for a quick reply

was just thinking, I think this may have started when we had the tires rotated?
Anything to check other then the speed sensors?

re: ABS?VSA and power steering lights on [solved]

I broke down and bought a code reader for ABS off amazon the ABS had a permeant VSP ( I think, cleared it playing with the tool )..Will see if that helps.

The old battery was having issues and needed replacing. Are there some code like that that will return if not cleared?

Noticed something strange. Light was off until I was sitting at a red light and turned the wheel to the far left and all lights came on. Seems turning the wheel at a stop triggered it and may help someone help me know where to look

if you had someone rotate the tires, take back there.
have you checked if any of the sensors were knocked out of place?

re: ABS?VSA and power steering lights on [solved]

I did get a fox well code reader and the code is 121-11 DTC-VSA solenoid valve malfunction.

I have been searching but not finding a lot, what is this and is it something I can replace?

thanks for all the help and teaching

re: ABS?VSA and power steering lights on [solved]

The troubleshooting for this code is pretty straight forward. Clear codes then see if it comes back after a key cycle. If so, check for loose terminals in the 37 pin VSA module connector. Then, replace the VSA module (this is the big ABS module block under the hood with 6 brake lines running to it).

re: ABS?VSA and power steering lights on [solved]

Don’t want to jinx it but the last 2 times I cleared the code it came back pretty quick.
Tonight I flushed the brake fluid out and so far no code.

Am hoping the valve malfunction is saying one is sticking a little and clean fluid helped. Will post an update on a few days

have to say in ever believed in “ flushing “ the brake fluid but starting to see why with ABS. Not sure I agree with Nissan which is something like 30K

re: ABS?VSA and power steering lights on [solved]

Brake fluid absorbs water over time. This can cause corrosion in the system. The fluid can also boil when hot enough under heavy braking, causing poor performance at best. This is why they recommend the brake fluid gets changed every ~3 years.

re: ABS?VSA and power steering lights on [solved]

I am about ready to tap out, maybe over my skill set
I replaced the module with a used one I got off email. Now I have more codes like 126-4, all seem to be related to communicating to the VSA module.
My hunch is the module is bad or wrong one but is there anything I can check?

re: ABS?VSA and power steering lights on [solved]

Good news is I did put toe original module on and all the commination errors went away.. One thign is for sure I have clean brake fluid after flushing it a few times

I cleared the code and will see if returns

Hopefully the ebay store will do the right thing and take it back..They advertised it as "tested"

I'm assuming there is some sort of part number on it. Does it match yours?

seems to match up. The eBay seller gave me a refund and I don’t think they want the bad one back so may send it off to get rebuilt.

re: ABS?VSA and power steering lights on [solved]

Just an update for others having this issue. I tried 2 " used" modules and both said " can't communicate with the abs module.
I just removed the old one and shipped it off to have it rebuilt. Will let everyone know how that works

re: ABS?VSA and power steering lights on [solved]

Want to post an update for others..
First I bought 2 used ABS modules and my car wouldn't read either so I think Honda has to update or program something.
With the used module I got all kinds of scary sounding alerts..Luckily when I put the old one back on they went away

2nd turn the mudule sideways with the bracket toward the front to get it out..Its a little tricky but after a few times I can swap it out in less then 30 minutes..Time consuming part for me was taking each tire off and bleeding the brakes

I ended up sending mine off the module masters and having it rebuilt/fixed..Took about 2 weeks including shipping and cost me around $400 after shipping. You have to pay shipping both ways.
BUT it seems to have fixed the issue. Looking back I should have just done that from day one

Here is the company I used, not endorsing anyone just telling my experience
