wash car w/dishwashing soap bad?

i recently brought my 02 CIVIC to my friendz house to clear my headlights. afterwards we both washed our 7th gen CIV. when i started to apply soap onto the car i found out that it was dishwashing soap! at 1st i was but i jus decided to use it just that once. he told me he been using house soap ever since he bought his 01 last year. i dont see any bad results on his car. but does this kind of soap harm the paint or car in any way?

Bad idea. What you are doing is stripping the wax...and if there isnt any wax on the car you are stripping the luster of your paint....Keep the dish detergent for the dishes.

yeah dish soap is bad. not sure why they listed it as something to use in the owners manual they should have known better than that

using dishwashing soap on your car isnt bad if you do it a couple of times... ivory works well because its 99% pure soap without harmful additives... most dish soaps do strip some of the clearcoat on your car so i would recommend buying car soap... but i wouldnt worry about washing ti once with dish soap

palmolive is what detailers suggest to strip wax... and ya - most dishsoaps will have prettymuch the same effect.. lots of people say the best thing to do is just straight up water but i can't do that to my car, i use auto shampoo.... give me suds baby

the only time i ever use the dishwasher stuff is about once a year, use it when washing to get all of the old wax off. then wax your car. the dishwasher soap is bad on paint, very bad.

Why would you guys even risk it? Just use some good 'ol car wash...

I use Palmolive to strip old wax.....but then I imediatly follow it with a nice bath in Meguires Gold Class Car Wash

There's more than $17,000 invested in my car, it's worth the $5 for washing it with decent car soap and a few more bucks for wax...

dish soap, baaaaaad! Never use it, it will strip your car's wax off and leave no protection.
