carwashes?
obviously i wish i could do it myself but i cant, but is there anything that you like to watch out for that makes a good car wash, i mean by the soap they use or how they dry the cars, to avoid scrathes and so forth, brand new car so just trying to start her off on the right foot?
I can resist everything except temptation.

QEW baby, do it yourself! Do you not have the time? Or the place to do it? If its just a place to do it try quick & easy wash (QEW). Uses one gal. of water and no rinsing. I steer clear of carwashes because of the harsh chemicals they use. If you HAVE to use one at least make sure it's a trouchless wash...those ones with brushes catch rocks and all kinds of crap and then scratch your car up.

Yeah if you have to resort to car washes, stick with touchless ones. My brother washed his GTI at a car wash and the brushes put alot of scratches all over his paint. I buffed most of them out, but some of them were just too deep.
Also, if you do use a full service car wash, look at the towels being used for drying. If they're using old towels, old t-shirts, dirty towels, etc... RUN!

When i can i hand wash/wax....but when im at college, even though i have a house with driveway, i go to the touchless automatic which has the ultimate wash for $5, $2 off the reg price. it has 1 rinse, 2 soap, 1 rinse, 1 spotless rinse, 1 "wax".
right after i pull out (hehe) i wipe the car down with my absorber brand rubber towel.
Next go to my house and quick mist detail spray the **** outta the car and wipe down the wheels, polish the exhaust, clean/Rain-X the windows, and clean out the interior. Usually looks really nice.

i suggest using a quick detailer on the car before entering a touchless car wash. might also use a wheel cleaner before as well. poorboy's mist and wipe yo http://www.danase.com/store/view_pro...?product=PB_SW
Until I found a good detailing shop I used to go through the non touchless car washes simply because I felt the car was washed better (and faster) never really liked those touchles ones,
I can only really speak for the Petro canada car washes, I never noticed any damage to my ssm paint job by them.
nothing compares to a hand wash
