Interchangeable engines

I have a totaled 2002 civic with automatic transmission that runs and drives but can't get tags. D17A1 1.7l. Non vtec. I'd like to swap it over to an 02 with a blown engine but it has a manual transmission. Don't know if it fits. Are all 7th generation 1.7s a direct swap? Can't find much information on this. Any help would save me the headaches. Thanks.

Re: Interchangeable engines

Any 01-05 dx/lx will bolt on directly. The ex engine will bolt up, but you'd have to either use an 01-03 ecu (04-05 utilize a different upstream O2 sensor) or use a VTEC controller (like an A'PEXi VAFC-II) to control the D17A2's VTEC.

Thanks. So it's safe to pull a civic out of the scrap pile with a 5 speed and put my engine on it?

Re: Interchangeable engines

Don't see why not. The engine that's in my car (02 ex manual tranny) the moment came from an 04 ex with an auto tranny and it bolted up just fine
