Rep Power: 0 I know that when i was in high school that when my shop teacher was swapping a mustang engine into a volvo that it had to be approved by the "referee", but that was also 8 years ago...Don't know if it helps but thought I would share what i know.

Rep Power: 233 LOL wow DOHC are you an idiot and the disc/disc breaks, u must be thinking for th Si. and my 03 civic ex is 2,530 LBS just rember they give you the weight of your car in the side when u open ur door and its add around 1,000 LBS cuz it gives you the max load capasity. so 3,530LBS - 1,000LBS= 2,530LBS. so your both kinda wrong on weight

Rep Power: 0 well...wut i heard is that you have to get the same year k20 engines with the same car model or newer...for ex: if you have a 03 civic, you must get a 03 k20 engine or newer. but if you get an 02 k20 engine for your 03 civic, it will become illegal. (correct me if i'm wrong).

Rep Power: 227 so your saying if i get the same year you still wont have to go through the ref .. bcuz wut i heard is even if you have the same year engine and same year car you still have to take it to the ref bcuz its different piping and it would give different emissions(iono if im right though).

Rep Power: 272 well if you want to go based on what is heard...then technically someone told me that it has to be the same generation of motor... here is an example.. what if you drive an 05 ex with a d17...and blow yor motor... so you go to the junk yard and they only got a 03 ex D17 motor... there exactly the same with the same emissions control... the only real difference between the 2 is the amount of mileage on the motor...

Rep Power: 0 I beg to differ that civics cant be fast. My 01' EX is boosting 11 PSI and, with a few other bolt-ons, I have run neck and neck with every V-8 I have gone up against. That is also including VERY heavy 18 inch rims.

Re: The 7thGen: Should I Swap or Turbo?? FAQ
A new turbo such as dezods turbo kit goes starting at about $3100+ for the core kit. To as much as $3800+ for the value package. Kits will cost more for other stuff that are not included such as boost controller and turbo timer. That stuff right there will run an additional $400 so your looking around $4000+ for a pretty good kit.

Re: The 7thGen: Should I Swap or Turbo?? FAQ
okay guys so I read the initial post and I have a small question. I really wanted to get more HP so I was turning to the turbo route. I am somewhat concerned about reliability though. I was thinking of picking up this turbo:
http://www.procivic.com/pages-produc...505/index.html
and then I have to build the internals and such still on top of the turbo kit there. But looking at the turbo kit that I wanted to get what kinda life expectancy am I looking at with that much of an upgrade? I've got almost 40k miles on my motor now, and I'm hoping it will last till 150k lol. If I'm hoping my car to last that long should I not even think of going turbo? I know you guys will say I should go the k20 swap route then... but I might end up selling the car way down the road and I'd need to go back to stock so the k20 isn't an option for me.

if its tuned well, u can make it to 150,000. just dont hotrod all the time and change the oil every 2k or 3k miles max.
also, done go the TSI route... i bought the kit and put it right back in the box when i looked at the **** construction of everything...
also, u can get a dezod for a bit more but get way better everything and u know it works cuz people here use em all the time.

Hmmm icic... I also forgot to add that the car would be a DD. Does that make a difference? Good to know that I should stay away from the TSI kit, I'll look into getting Dezod flavored instead. I'm not looking to make track times or street race, I just want to have be a little faster and have that sweet blow out valve sound lol

Blow OFF valve... lol
ya, DEZODs kit is nice as hell, and if u dont wanna go crazy fast, u dont have to.
u can easily get his kit or another and run low PSI on stock internals and get a perky 165-180 HP... thats pretty nice for a car that weighs like 2200 lbs. lol

Not to be dick, but just for reference sake. The lightest 7thgen according to my knowledge is the dx manual coupe at barely over 2400 lbs(stock of course). Which is a fair bit heavier than the older civics but compared to most cars out there, even sport compacts, that's still really light. I agree, I'd love 165-180whp. Would make for a fun dd.

your right but its the fact that a fast civic is so unexpected that i like. I know people with SRT4s; put on some slicks, reflash, they run low 13s high 12s. its rediculous. but to drive a civic into the 11s. well. **** everything else thats awesome.

Re: The 7thGen: Should I Swap or Turbo?? FAQ
Hi all..
Good info.. I have been reading some info here and on internet... always the same for d17 motors.. swap k20 or built it turbo...
Fews weeks ago I got a em2 2003 lx manual.. I like the car.. very good look.
But I was wondering.. if instead of build it turbo what about to buy an acura rsx ? or type S and spend the money on these car? what is better? ..
Which one is faster.. a d17 turbo with 200+ hp or and acura rsx or type S with some basic mod?
I want to build turbo but almost all the civic than are very fast are b16, or k, but only some few D... :s
I was wondering too if is better sell or get a old civic 1998 or 1999 or something with a b16 and buld it :s , how much should one spend to buld a b16 with turbo and reach 200 HP... is a very big difference in money or it is almost the same build b16 vs d17?
Thanks

Re: The 7thGen: Should I Swap or Turbo?? FAQ
hey i was just curious what you did? i have an 04 lx coupe, and i'm pretty stuck on how to modify it to make it faster, it is the slowest civic ever built, and thats the one i decided to do something with. i have already put alot of money into the cosmetics (rims, kit, paint job) so i would really like to do some performance mods, i just don't know where to start.
