Looking for advice

I watched 3 weeks worth of videos on YouTube, on which upgrade to do first. Prl c.a.i. is what I went with. I am not real happy about the "new" engine sound, what sound? All I hear is the psshh of the b.o.v.! It quite literally sounds the same. I'm NOT mad though. 😡 (is mad) anyway, I think I should mention, it's a c.v.t.....2018 hatchback EX-T c.v.t..... I know, don't say it......but, what about ktuner ..... you know, lower end tune? I know it will definitely void me out but what are the chances if I stay on the low end..... any thoughts, suggestions, or put downs.... at this point,....idc.....thanks

Re: Looking for advice

KTuner changes the vehicle entirely -- in a good way. It really wakes up the car. I'd recommend buying it from phearable or twostepperformance since, if you do, they toss in their tunes for free. Phearable's is like a $120 value, TSP's tune is like a $90 value. I'm running the Phearable non-si CVT tune on my '18 sport hatch, and have since... feb 2019 with zero issues. Phearable puts you at approximately 210-215whp and 245ft-lb torque, but you have to run 91 at a minumum, and they strongly recommend 93 octane. TSP and KTuner base tunes, they strictly recommend 91 octane with no mention of 93 octane. I only have 93 available where I'm at, but man, it's fun. My car is faster than a stock Si coupe, for what it's worth, and that car is lighter and MT. The nice thing about the CVT is it'll keep you in the peak torque band for pretty much the duration of high throttle acceleration

I've read some people said that Phearable Map 3 (yes, you can switch maps on the fly -- 15psi, 20psi 24 psi, maps 1-3, respectively) is "too much for daily driving," but I've found it extremely daily driveable. Compared to the base 21psi KTuner tune with the quick adjustments I messed with, I can tell how they subdued the torque down low to protect the transmission, but once you get up near the peak torque band or just get on the throttle, man, it pulls. I drove on a road trip with complete disregard for my fuel economy (because I wanted to get to my destination quickly and it was late), and with flow of traffic, with an uphill-ish road grade, and a lot of scanning for cops, we were averaging 95-100 the whole way through, still made 30MPGs. Otherwise, with my daily driving habits, I'm typically at the 33-36mpg combined city/highway fuel economy.

Case in point, I'd say go for it.

also, look at this thread of mine: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/3...liability.html

edit: if you're looking to tune, just automatically it'll assume it'll void your engine/powertrain warranty. You can always try flashing back to stock, then going in for warranty work, but it's a gamble. I read this one thread on civicx where a dude blew his CVT (messed with too much and got a really bad custom tune), he flashed back to stock, and was able to get a new tranny under warranty. I mess with my car with the attitude "I void warranties," mostly because I'm very finicky about who I trust under the hood of my car. The list has since grown to 5 people: myself, my buddy matt, my step-dad, my ex's god father, and my buddy that lives in cincy

Re: Looking for advice

Fam. I am completely ****ed up then..... I paying for the factory warranty to be reinstated as new and the beginning. I've already put on the prl c.a.i. and was a little disappointed already.... it seems like, especially after reading about all the c.v.t.s and 6 Manuel's that Hondata and ktuner have destroyed is completely disheartening..... and that's only WHAT WE KNOW OF.... today is November 30th 2021.... and by now, I'm sure that list is fn nuts. Thanks it, I have to sell this mf and get out from under it. Maybe get a wrx....or Mazda 6 or Hyundai veloster N, which is way more hp than the si ever could dream of coming.......stock.i feel sick...

Re: Looking for advice

Are you worried about destroying the trans? Did you not read his thread? Nearly 40k miles with that tune putting power through the CVT, no issues.

Re: Looking for advice

Brotatao,.... I did read it. I am still trying to get used to this because I've never been on a forum before. It's a little but confusing, I'm also looking at the dates and sometimes, it just doesn't make sense. Anyways, I saw where the guy said what you said he said.....lol. Buy I also read the thing where there was a list of blow engines or cvts..... I guess due to hondata and ktuner. Some of the language I do not understand..... when people use things like c.a.i. (that's one I know) sometimes I don't know what they mean and when I try to reference it, google just sits there looking at me stupidly. I am going to try and go back to find the place where he said 40k and no issues. Maybe I will try what he's doing. The bottom line here, I ****ed up, badly,....should have just went with the stick ..... I mean, all my first cars were stick.....my favorite was 1985 rx-7. Anyways, thanks for that.

Re: Looking for advice

I wanted a MT bad, but they sold the one I was looking at when I got to the lot. Literally the minute I stepped foot, I saw the deal closing. I test drove the CVT and was content with it.

upside: OEM clutch is hot garbage. Acceleration keeps you in peak torque band

downside: max wheel torque it can handle is about 250

What kinda terms are you unfamiliar with? I can help you out. That's what forums are for, to be honest. You don't know something, search for it. Still can't find it? Post up. that's how I learned.
