ok guys. so one day i was driving up the hill and the engine acted like it was loosing power. then for the first time i decided to switch to D3 and that helped out a bit. i was wondering what is the truth and myths behind using D3 and 2 gear. i think theres a risk of messing up the engine or causing it to get lazy if u know what i mean. is it okay to use the D3 gear in between frequent stops? i'd like to hear from u guys. let me know what u know.

d3 is fine to use, do not drop into 2 as you drive. You shouldnt need to drop to d3 when going up a hill as the engine should downshift for you as the tranny has something called grade logic. Grade logic will take into the account inclination and declination, dropping gears to help braking or help acceleration.
Link to RL about grade logic, but its the same system.

more info on D3: it will just keep you in the first 3 gears therefore keeping you in a higher RPM allowing faster acceleration. blah blah blah, the rest u can search on that..

hmmm, there was something written up about this that was very clear. I can't find it right now, so you'll just have to search for it.
It doesn't really help unless you're going uphill. If you push in the gas pedal a little it should downshift on its own..

anyways, so its not bad for my engine if i shift down to D3 as i want a better engin response to pass a car in front of me? stuff like that. ive been using D3 gear pretty often but dont want to make my engine any lazier.

I wouldn't worry about the engine at all... the tranny is more troublesome it seems. You should be fine with D3 tho. I use it almost every time I drive my GF's car.

get a stick lol...no im just bustin your *****.
lower your tire pressure.
pop on some bolt ons and watch the .00s go smaller lol.
launch in d2 and shift up.
if you really want you could get a VAFC2 and control the shift point from that on your tranny

^^ our cars dont have D2 just 2. With an auto drag racing i wouid just start in drive. the transmission will start in the lowest gear anyway. It will shift up when needed.

yeah i am in the same boat on that one....i accidentally hit the gas before the trans kicked into gear....i was kinda mad at the time....and it reved pretty high before it hit the gear.....lets just say after about a day or so i lost all of my trans....and now i am in the market for one...
I mean i also deliver Pizza...and that is really hard on a trans...
i have gone through two since i started delivering over the past three years
untill i get a new trans for my vic i am stuck driving my 69 Nova...Gas Guzzler....but fun to drive though...
