Civic help please my only car to work

01 Honda Civic EX
130,000

Got the car for free so I know it’s got it’s quirky
aka leaks oil like som bitch.

it’s had a rough idle and miss at idle. And it also misses at acceleration only sometimes though.

so today I was driving it back from work on my way to school. And I was sitting at a red light and the car violently idles and then shuts off. I fired it back up and did the old foot break and gas method. And kept it running. When I got out of school the maintenance required light flashed for about 3 seconds and then went off. I’m assuming it’s a bad pcv valve or maybe a iacv.

Anything will help I’m just trying to avoid buying a iacv. They are way to expensive for a free car.

thanks,
bobby

Do you mean the Check Engine Light came on and not the Maintenance Required Light? If yes, what it the code?

No check engine light. It was the maintenance required light that was flashing. I was try to get the car to throw a code but I couldn’t manage to get it to throw one.

The Maintenance Required Indicator's function is described in your Owner's Manual. It is only an indicator that a certain mileage interval has expired and a reminder to have service performed according to the maintenance schedule also in the OM.
The indicator will blink for 10 secs once the ignition switch turned to ON (II). It will eventually come on and stay on unless you reset it.
To reset: Press the select switch and reset switch at the same time, turn the ignition switch ON (II), and hold them more than 10 seconds.

Causes of rough idle could be bad spark plugs (use OEM only), bad coils, bad gas, dirty throttle body/Idle Air Control Valve or vacuum leaks for starters.
