Odd part with jdm

I am in the process of replacing my d17a2 with a JDM d17a. It came with a transmission and an extra part I am not familiar with.

Any ideas?

That hunk of metal is a reinforcement bracket for the engine block/transmission marriage.

Hows your swap going?

It is going really well actually. Rings in old engine went belly up on cylinder 1. With 270k miles on it, I went JDM. I am amazingly satisfied at how clean the engine is.

Why do I not have this on the old engine? Is this for an automatic? I have a standard, it only has 2 little tabs on the bottom that attach the pan and tranny.

Looks really clean!

Don't quote me exactly, I think that couple bolts on the manual went engine side into transmission and on the automatic they go transmission side-through engine block-into that bracket.

if your replacing every seal and gasket, don’t forget that silly oring between the block and oil pump!
