2001 civic EX, oil leak problem
Hello folks, I got a situation here: my 2001 civic EX began to leak oil a few days ago but I couldn't figure out the the source. Can anybody help me out? Pics are attached.
car situation: 10k miles; recently replaced timing belt, water pump, crank seal and cam seal
Mistakenly posted this thread in the general forum a few minutes ago, sorry about cross posting.
Thanks!

How significant is the leak?
If it's leaking a fair bit of oil you should be able to trace the source from underneath the car: check the seal around the oil pan, underneath the oil filter.

Thanks, Mindbomber! I think the oil was from the cap in the fourth pic. Do you know what that is?

start from the top and work your way down. some of those places you showed have nowhere that would leak oil (except the block which is bad news). could be the oil cap o-ring is bad, valve cover gasket, cam plug, etc.

Well, from your pics, those last two pic's are of a transmission solenoid, which probably means the leak is still higher up since the fluid is brown, unless your trans fluid hasn't been changed in a long while and it's turned brown as well.
Like gearbox said, look higher up. Based on where the leak is right now, it's either you valve cover gasket or the cylinder head plug.
I don't know if you're allowed to post you tube videos, but I'm gonna in an effort to help you identify one of the areas where it may be leaking.

I wouldn't recommend using Honda bond like he did. I would just use some gray RTV and put a little on each side of the new cylinder head plug to help hold it in place. The new o-ring on the plug should seal with out issue. Also, you only loose a few ounces of oil. Just have a rag under it to catch the small amount that does leak out. Your dipstick won't notice the difference it you oil is filled properly. You should be able to drive the vehicle immediately after this plug replacement, if this is your issue.
If it is there and you have an EX you're going to have to remove the EGR valve to get to it. I would recommend getting a new EGR valve gasket since it has to be removed anyway to get to the cylinder head plug. You might want to get some brake cleaner as well and spray it into the EGR valve and clean it while you're there.
If it's the valve cover gasket, then you'll just have to replace that gasket.
Good luck.
