Is this a problem w/ battery? Or something else?

Hey guys,

I have a 2005 Honda Civic EX. Here is all the information that may be related to the situation:

1) Battery was not replaced until 3 years 11 months after vehicle purchase. This was prompted by a dead battery, which is what I'm posting about.
2) Following equipment has been installed overtime via a professional: Viper Remote Start, FM Antenna (rear windshield integrated one stopped working after 1.5 years), Pioneer DEH-690UB Head Unit, and since last week have been connecting iPod to that.
3) Battery died once before; sitting at a drive in movie theater, car off acc on radio on, was able to get started after awhile of waiting.

Sunday I drove 300mi to another state, with GPS, Headunit, and iPod on / connected. Thursday I drove 300mi back, same things connected. I got about 200mi back into my state and stopped at a rest stop. The vehicle was off, so no power was going to anything. I come back out, try to remote start car, and the battery is completely dead. Needed a jump, and the person jumping stated that there was a lot of corrosion on the hot side of the battery and it NEEDS to be replaced.

Was able to get back home, parked, left car on but could tell it was dying again... lits were dimming (headlights were dimming on and off while driving), and the car seemed to stutter / stall (not completely) before I decided I'm shutting it off, then couldn't turn on again.

I thought that once the vehicle is on, everything goes over to the alternator... but then the car still had problems. I did replace the battery to a new one, however I'm trying to figure out why I would've even had problems with the vehicle on, or what could have drained it that fast. I did leave the iPod connected to the head unit when at the rest stop, but it shouldn't have been passing power over to it.

Does this all sound like a faulty battery issue and I should be fine since replacing? Or would this be caused by another underlying issue?

bad cable connection to the battery it would seem. causing the alternator to not charge the battery while driving. make sure clamps are secure and free of corrosion. its also possible something is draining the battery.

When I replaced the battery, the cable itself seemed to be free from corrosion... only the terminal of the battery was corroded. I did make sure we tightened the connections. I just hope this isn't actively happening right now without me knowing...

well if it doesnt happen again, it was the old battery causing it. otherwise if it dies again, you may have an accessory draining the battery. if your alarm system has the "backup battery" feature, just rip it out and throw away. that dumb battery gave me nothing but problems and would constantly steal voltage to charge itself even tho it was dead and never could charge. just kept draining the main battery if i didnt drive every day.
