Moving to Vancouver
Moving to Vancouver
I'm going to BC for 2 months, see if I like it, how school is there... I'm gonna stay at my cousins place, he lives in Surrey. I just wanna know what goes on around there, my civic is staying here so is transportation there reliable? Its gonna be a big change for me, moving from a big city to a smaller more cleaner one. Anyways, thanx for any replies I get.

Well let me be the first on this site to say welcome to Vancouver, for that matter Surrey. Where abouts in Surrey you going to be living?
Transportation out here is pretty good. I myself am not too familiar with the bus schedules or anything, but my girlfriend seems to get anywhere she needs to on them when needed. Other than that, the skytrain is your best option. It can take you right through most cities in the lower mainland. It is rather convenient, and your transfers from the bus are usable on the skytrain as well.
Hope all goes well while you are here.
Cheers
Randy

I've been to surrey twice before but it was on vacation. When I go there in a couple of weeks, I have to find a job, register at school...
I don't know where exactly in surrey he lives but his name is Jordi if any of your know him.
Also I hear Surrey is like prostitute central lol
School, I dunno, I'll look around and see what courses are available, not to sure what I want to get in.

A last name would definately help.
As for the prostitution, maybe one or two areas, but I got to be honest, I know Montreal and they are known for more prostitution than we are here. I have heard many things about strip clubs out there

haha, you guys are full of bs. Vancouver and all it's surrounding suburbs have piece of sh|t transportation. Public transit costs an arm and a leg to get anywhere and you wait forever. Skytrain only runs through 2 lines.
oh and btw.. a couple months ago Surrey was dubbed "Auto theft Capital of North America".
Surrey has a HUGE crime rate. Car accidents every morning on the news is in Surrey, some guy gets murdered and grow ops everywhere and home invasions + teen chicks getting raped/murdered all the time.
Yea.. surrey is cool.

Noodleboy,
You must watch the all Surrey news channel and thats it! Because let me say, all the things that you claim happen in Surrey happen everywhere else. I lived in Burnaby for 14 years, and I gotta say, I feel much safer walking the streets of Surrey than I did Burnaby. I was never held at knifepoint in Gulidford mall, but I was at Metrotown!
As for growops, murders, and ....... They happen everywhere, just look at the million dollar mansion that was busted for being a growop in Vancouver. All the things you stated happen in Surrey, happen in Vancouver just as much. Sure the suburbs are a better suited place for grow ops, anybody could figure that out, why, because you are not shoved into a box for a house and charged $1000/month. We have more space in the suburbs, more land bigger houses.
I am not saying Surrey is the safest place around, I am simply pointing out that ignorant people believe stereotyping. Crime is everywhere, it can happen in another country, city, hell even next door.
Depends on what you think is expensive I guess.
Your forgot to mention that it is per capita, meaning that based on the cars that were stolen, and the population of Surrey, offenders were most likely to steal more than once.

I'm a guy so I'm not worried about getting raped, I'm also not worried about getting mugged or shot. It's the, 'Surrey was dubbed "Auto theft Capital of North America" ' thing that worries me.

Welcome first of all...
Another good thing about Surrey is that we have the Weed in the world! Hence all the Grow Opps...Not to mention the easy Surrey girls...LOL!
Surrey is a good place to live if your in the right area! Randy (Money9) lives close to fleetwood nice area. I lived in Guildford for 10 years before I moved to the rock, it was ok! As long as you don't live in Whalley your good! The only reason way Whalley is gettiing bad is because of the Crack victims that get on the sky train and come down from Vancouver!
As for people whom live in Vancouver and crap on Surrey let me tell ya! I hate Van City everytime I go there I almost smash my new car because of all the honger's who could not drive there finger up their azz! Let alone see over the steering wheel!
Let's compare the crime and muder in Vancouver to Surrey shall we. Oh, that's right we can't because it's not even close. Surrey is a way better place to live! So what if there is some car thief going on...Atleast we don't get asked for spare change every 5 minutes, have to walk through drug needle's on the way to the store or deal with people trying to clean our windows for a buck so that they can get a hit of smack! Or did you forget all about that kind of stuff, Noodle! Don't get me started on East Hastings street or Commerical drive!
Don't even get me started on people whom spend their time on a 7th gen civic site and don't even drive a 7th gen civic or in this case a honda at all...
Sorry, I just can't handle that!
I live in White Rock which is about 15-20 South of Surrey and I love it! I live right on the beach. I don't have to deal with horrible drivers just slow old people. When you get to Surrey let us know we'll set up a mini meet in your honor! Maybe, we should have it at the rock! Barbeque at Rob's! If the wife let's me...
Rob

Spoken like a true champion Robbie
I agree with problems on Commercial Drive or East Hastings, and can't stand the window washers. If I wanted my windows to be washed with dirty brown water, I would get a 4x4
As for the area sg2kca will be going to, not bad. It is a busy area with traffic, and Surrey Place being close by, but all in all, a clean part of town. Whalley is a few blocks down the way, you'll know it when you go through it, but just up the way is Guildford, which gets better, and if you keep going, you get into the quiet areas of town (I live there).
As for the meet, you don't need your car, just cruise out with one of us. You gotta check out the strip in White Rock, great place in the summer time. Lots of girls and lots of guys showing off their cars on the strip.
Robbie has the sweetest place around. It is right on the main drag, and really nice too!
Robbie, you buy your BBQ yet? I am getting mine from Superstore when the tax return comes in.

If you want a real good one I have found some stainless steel ones ranging from $600.00 to $1000.00, but those are lock stock and barrell. They have everything. I think one of them wiped your *** for you if needed =)
The one I am going to get is $200.00 and has a bigger cooking surface than the $600.00 ones, plus a side burner. Check out Superstore, they have some sweet deals on them right now. They range from $199.00 - $399.00

that don't drive a civic that contribue to this board too. I used to have a 7th gen
civic too.
Yes you may live in Surrey and think it's all nice and jazzy, but for someone
that's never lived there, if you ever listen to the radio, almost ALL the car
accients you here about are in Surrey on 100 something street or 200 something
street or whatever street in surrey. Sorry, but i listen to news AM everyday to work
and that's all i hear is this and this in surrey. But if i've offended you in ANY way
come out to New West and we talk about it over a beer. Go ahead and invite
your wife.
Squiggy ninjas (window washers) usually hang around 1st ave and down town area
and that's it. hastings and commerical area is bad but is restricted to a very very small
region of Vancouver.
Honger (bad drivers) are usually in Richmond, and sorry, but the last 10 trips to Surrey
there are rednecks in pickup trucks everywhere thinking they own the road...
...and yes, Surrey auto theft capital of North America - why else you think they started
the Car Bait program? Even in Jersey where car theft is extremely high they don't even
have the bait program. It's so bad here we need it.
Well, maybe just don't get exposed to all the crap and consider that lucky, and hey, chill
you and i are both being screwed over by the liberals.

We could go on and on forever, but you gotta understand Robbie, he like myself take great pride in our homes and where we live. I think you were simply exposed to something that doesn't happen everday here.
You could say the same about Robbie and myself. I am not a huge fan of Vancouver myself, simply because of the roads in downtown, I feel like hitting myself in the head with a hammer after driving down there, actually I feel like hitting other people in the head with a hammer after driving down there, and you can't blame this on a bad experience as I drive downtown every day. The roads are so friggin confusing with one way streets and small lanes...... etc
