Contemplating Selling.
Guys/gals, I need some advice when it comes time to sell my car. This is what I have:
2001 Honda Civic LX coupe
- 5 speed
- 52,XXX kms
- Honda spoiler
- New all-season tires
- Hood Deflector
- Life Time Honda oil change card
What should my asking price be? I know I've found 3 other similar (no extras at all!) civics in Edmonton and their asking prices range from $15,900 to $18,900(a little high if you ask me). I want my car to sell right away but I don't want to sell it for Black book value. Any ideas where I should advertise?
Now, I have the following parts I know I should sell separatly:
1) Motegi 17" MR7 rims in gunmetal with 2 sets of blue locking lugs, used for 1/2 of summer - Not in season, so, I'll be asking $1000.
2) AEM Tru pulleys in blue - Used for 6 months, $80
3) AEM Cold Air Intake in blue - Used for 10 months, with K&N filter re-charger - $150
4) Magnaflow catback exhaust - $150 with trade from other DX/LX owner's stock exhaust.
Or, should I sell my car with all my parts installed?

Sell the parts seperately you will get more for the aftermarket products, and your car will be available to a broader selling audience and not only the people who are looking for an aftermarket car, but a family car as well.
Just my opinion however. Good luck with whatever you end up doing.

Turboslug - The card remains with the car... It does have the VIN number on it but nothing beats free lifetime oil changes...
Shogun - From my experience, the pulleys could be a pain to put in unless you have an impact wrench or access to one. They were easier to put in than my CAI but still, a little stressful. I think it took me about 2 hours to install but it was straight forward. As for gains, there are some but it changes the charateristics of you engine... Now, my car revs easier and takes a lot longer to decelerate. For $80 , how can you go wrong though? I spent $220+gst on them.
Cisco88 - I haven't forgotten about you. I am selling my car but not just yet, most likely in the summer. So, don't feel in a hurry to buy the rims off of me because you can't exactly use them now. NBP and gunmetal, that would be a sweet combination. I think they would look better on your car than my brother's rims... I guess I just have a fancy for gunmetal though.

Blown i believe trading in the car to get a new car would be a better deal since you only pay the insane amount of tax on the difference whereas if you sell it privately you pay tax on the whole purchase price of the new car....but just to give you an idea of what i got when i traded in my old civic.
2001 Civic DX-G (A/c, Central locking, CDplayer)
34,000 KM
No Dings/scratches/Accidents
Purchased for $17,400 CAD
Traded in for $15,500 CAD (after 1 year &1/2)
so being you'res is LX and other stuff on it, you should easily get $17000 on a trade-in.

Noodleboy - On the contrary... I could only get $11,419 - $13,294 for my car trading it in... It seems like salesmen tend to use black book values quite strictly. Now, comparing other similar civics for sale in the local papers, I could easily fetch $16K from a private sale.
So, looking at how much I would save: Take an average of the BB value = $12356.50 for my car
Lets use a purchase price of $28000 for example:
Trade - in: ($28,000 - 12,356.50) x 1.07 = $16,738.55
Full purchase price: ($28,000 - 16,000)x1.07 = $12,840
I would save about $4000 on the new car by selling my civic privately. If I was offered $15K as a trade in value, I would definitly go ahead and trade it in. However, I've been to 3 different dealerships and all of them only offered me around $13K for my car.

Well, damn what kinda crap dealer is that? I'd go to another dealer dude, 12-13K is REALLY sh|itty.
If that's the case then i'll just sell it privately, but seriouslytho, ask around your town.

Noodleboy - Thats from 4 different dealerships, VW, Toyota, and both Subarus. I'm going to have to sell it privately. The used civics hold up their prices quite well, it's just that Black Book Value.
Edit: I can't stand the salesmen I've dealt with so far... The nicest salesman I talked to was at still a domestic dealership. The guys at Mazda fought over who wanted to help me, like right in my face...
