ban on nitrous oxide

hey can anyone confirm? i think i heard this on the news but i passed to quick

in bc at least, after all these cases of supposed street racing.

well one case of street racing..the rest were all stupid people speeding and crashing and thus media has once again reported it as "street racing" instead of high speed collision

and so they're talking about banning nitrous? somebody

it'll still be around everywhere etc....

it's just locally here in bc, if you haven't heard in the past few weeks...there was a big accident involving street racing...and so the media's focused on that

and lately there have been a lot of fatalities involving teens SPEEDING...but they report it as street racing....basically every accident that involves a teen lately has been reported as street racing

and as a way to curb so called street racers..

they want to enforce a complete ban on nitrous oxide products...so that means legit racers won't be able to have em in their cars. i'm assuming it'll be fine if you have a track only car....but a lot of people that go to the track drive dual duty street/track cars

Just cause some 16 year old asian kids in their 400hp cars (bought by parents) kills themselves, we will have to pay for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let them speed, then they will die, then there wont be any more speeding!!!

(Sorry, this is violent, and im not racist, but I am very angry. Sorry.)

The problem is not the drivers dying. The problem is the possibility of killing bystanders and other motorists. People walking along the sidewalk minding their own business and then gets killed because some 17 year olds were speeding and lose control. Happened near my house 2 months ago. F*ck'n kids were racing an Explorer.

verbal.. you're right.. but at this time in bc.. like.. craploads of dumbass young drivers have killed themselves recently with excessive speeding.. not necessarily racing, but just plain being dumb and excessively speeding.

the police are targetting the young drivers and one way to slow them down is to cut the use of nitrous oxide to zero. it used to be legal for use off the streets.. but now from the looks of it.. it may mean not being able to have it in your car at all, EVEN if for drag use.

it's a mess right now in bc. if i didn't know any better.. i'd say it's a mass cult suicide.. lol

from the reports ive seen, without paying attention to their big 'oo aa street racing' bias, I have noticed a few things...

the honda accord just recently - single vehicle accident?? at least thats what i thought of it
the BMW a few weeks ago - totally street racing - 3 cars, 3 lanes, one lane ended, BMW meets pole
The pedestrian hit just a few days ago - 2 cars (one being mazda mp5) driving in excess of 100KPH side by side - sounds like racing to me

I know there's been at least a few more. Most of these are street racing guys... as for NOS, i heard NOS being talked about on the news the other nite because one of the latest accidents directly involved the use of NOS... from there, a reference was made to the fast & the furious and how it glamourized the use of NOS and how hollywood didn't teach the dangers therof.

ANYWAYS, back to the question... they are currently humming over options to put a damper on the street racing/speed related accidents. A few of the options rolling around are banning NOS, and higher ICBC premiums for young drivers, toughening up the 'new driver' program, etc.

that's another story that's been heavily distorted by the media.

here's what it was as reported by the sun, facts were correct but the storry they called it street racing.

a yellow p5 driven by a ubc student on the way to school on 41st avenue. speeding at 70km/h ... the second car a silver altima (drivers were reported not to know each other) was also traveling at speeeds.

70 year old lady jaywalks across 41st avenue at which point the yellow p5 brakes and stops. however the altima was unable to stop and rearends the p5, in turn hitting the elderly woman sending her flying underneath a parked van.

now i don't think they were racing, just speeding ... and this happens quite often jaywalkers getting plowed by a car, my friend in fact witnessed one whilst on a bus...and everyone else on the bus watch this jaywalker get smoked by a car. there were two cars one in each lane..they were probably speeding a bit...60km/h but definitely weren't racing...and you didn't see this tragic incident appear in the paper or news or what not did you?

accidents like this happen all the time...someone brakes for a jaywalker and gets rearended...

it's what gets people into a frenzy ... so the media keeps reporting stuff like this..in a month or two it'll be something else.... just like how it was afghanistan prior to this street racing....but then that got dull to the people so the media had to find something else.

I've seen a rash of those accidents (especially the yellow P5 and Altima) on BCTV. I have Starchoice and watch the news in other Canadian cities all the time. I like that older female newscaster with the blond streaks in her hair on BCTV at 6. I forget what her name is.

julie kropp? hehe...
jaywalking...thats a hard decision...in other countries like new zealand...jaywalking is illegal..if you get hit while jaywalking you can't do anything to the driver...but if you hit a dog..then thats another matter there

I believe NOS should be illegal for use on public roads....

The only reason one would use NOS is if he/she is planning on reaching speeds in excess of the speed limit. I know some speed limits are just downright stupid but they are put there for safety purposes... SPEED is dangerous *on public roads* - i have no problem if someone were to use all the speed they need in an appripriate environment, but a piblic road, where there are other people jaywalking, turning left, crossing, WHATEVER speeds reached by using NOS should not be condoned.

What pisses me off about this is that I'm a 20 year old male who doesn't drive like an ***** and yet I'm the one who's gonna end up paying huge *** insurance rates because some egotistical NOS jockey revs up and gets himself killed.

**to clarify the above statement, I do admit i tend to drive like an *** but in no way do i do so to the extremity it takes when NOS is used.
