That's what happened to me, my insurance covered it, but you'll have to place a police report. What they did was take the value of them today and deduct 30% (10% each year for 3 years, don't ask how they got 3 years, I guess because they're used they can pick any number). If you do buy used, see if you can get the seller old receipt from when they first bought them.
If they don't have them then good luck. Pictures help, but not really all that much.

If you have the original receipt they will cover them, they will depreciate them from the date they were sold...... so if there 2 years old, 20% off and so on ... But yes they will be covered ... If no receipt, good luck (you may want to keep pics of them on your car as well for proof)
You can also cover rims / mods seperatly if you wish. I had my insurance co. cover my rims, head unit, speakers, and the labor to install it all. Total I spent like $2000 to $2500 on it. So I had them add an extra 3k to my cars worth. It cost me $2.00 extra a month. Well worth it in my opinion. I had reciepts. So not sure what the deal is for non reciept.
insurance will cover anything bolted onto the vehicle, e.g. rims, ice. assuming that you have comp, of course you will have to pay your deductable, so if you have a high deductable like a 1000, you won't get much if anything! but if you have a low deductable like 100 or 250 go ahead and file a claim. now if the car is stolen and there is damage to the rims chances are its going to be damage from them hitting curbs and that will fall under collision, the deductable still applies, but unlike a comp claim, a collision claim will affect your rates, now if the car is stolen and stipped down then that will be a comp claim. hope this helps you out, i use to work for state farm ins co, but remember that there will be full investigations into claims like that because of so much insurance fraud that is going on
