caught speeding what do you recommend?

well i just got caught this morning going 70 km/h in a 50 zone on Britannia west near erin mills parkway. what should I do, will my insurance go up or what? 20 over is 2 points? should I take it to court and make some excuse off so at least I dont get the points? this is actually my first time getting stopped by the police for anything so I dont really know much about this.

Sorry to tell you, but 20 over is 3 points (anything from 16-29 i believe is 3 pts). Since it is your first ticket, your insurance rates should not change. I got a speeding ticekt reduced from 40 over, 295$ fine to 25 over, 165$ fine and he said even though I am a 18 year old, first driver on a car and got a speeding ticket, since it is my first ticekt, my insurance rates SHOULDNT change.

What you can do, is you can plead "guilty with an excuse" (thats what I did), you go and sit for 2 mins with some guy and you tell him why you went 20 over (I was passing someone), and maybe he'll reduce it for you. If he doesn't reduce it, hey who cares, you got another 6 months to save up the cash. In my opinion, the chances of getting it reduced to 15 over is slight, since that reduces 3 points to 0. But who knows, it's worth a shot.

Edit: Demerit points for speeding start at 3, so 15 over doesn't get any

It is 3 points and not 2. So I would suggest that u take it to court and fight it or hire someone to fight it for u like xcopper or etc.

sorrt to hea that. just hire some guy to help you fight it if you dont have enough confidence to talk down the fine and the points. good luck and you would rather pay fines then lose any demit point(s)
goodluck

Yah, 3 points, better get a ticket fighter. Spend the $$ so that you don't have the points taken off.

Sorry to hear that...

I was caught two times....I was going 80 on a 50 street and 75 on a 50 street the second time.

IF it was your first time, you can just try to go to the court and beg if you can just pay the fine and ask them not to take any points off you...I heard some of my friends were aable to get away with that....

but if it was your second time....or if you have no more points left after the ticket..I recommend you find yoursefl a ticket fighter...they are generally pretty good.....chinese ones are pretty good...you pay them about as much as the money you wre fined.....and they take care of everything.....but of coz it is not garentee that they can fight the points off for you.......but...thye are pretty efficient..

Whassup?! I also got a ticket last Friday... I was going 84km/h in a 60 zone. Yes, it's 3 points and I'm taking that to court. I actually got caught accelerating, cuz I made a right onto Morningside from Ellesmere and as I was accelerating down towards the bridge, but I was already gunned by the cop hiding at the Morningside Park entrance! Shiet, I couldn't believe it.... I usually rip it so much faster down there... but that day, I'm lucky I didn't. I told the officer to give me a break since that's a speed trap cuz I was the only car heading towards that direction, since the rest of southbound traffic was still at a red light and that by the time he gunned me I was just easing off the accelerator. But oh well... I'm taking it to court. The cop was actually pretty nice to me... he told me to take it to court, and if he shows he'll try to work it out? Or... is that just a trap or something? Maybe that means, if he shows... he'll book me for sure?! I don't know... just take it to court and explain to the judge what happened. That's what I'm gonna do... and we'll see what happens. Good luck! Oh, I'm also gonna go tomorrow afternoon to the building on Markham Road and Milner to book for a courtdate.

do NOT hire xcopper or a ticket fighter. You will waste your money and end up paying twice as much as your fine. Don't worry about the points, if you can't get it reduced by going and explaining why you don't have any money or why you went so fast, then just take what you deserve. It's only 20 over, just plead guilty with an excuse.

take it easy guys! try not to speed! it's not worth speeding if you're late for an appointment/work/class, leave earlier or something, it'll save you guys time and money in the long-run (safeguards your insurance, wallet and most importantly your safety and the safety of others)... i think it's okay though to speed 10above (the cops will just give you an evil stare but won't stop you)... but at least 15 or 20 over is asking for it... i believe speeding is close to being as dangerous and silly like street racing...

GOODLUCK FIGHTING THE TICKETS!

I would suggest you schedule a first attendance meeting and try to fight it yourself. If it doesn't pan out the way you would like it to then take it to court w/ or w/o hiring a third party. This way you have at least tried fighting it for free... yes, it's probably more time consuming but it's purely your call.

been to court 100 X ... trust me... and never been convicted .... I had all charges dropped and always represented myself....

well ANDOY and cue2K1 was there....maybe cue2K1 scared em....

but

DO NOT PLEAD GUILTY WITH AN EXPLENATION!!!!!!

that just means your guilty... and u just wasted your time......

heres what you do....

1. Take it to court...
2. ONLY plead guilty to a LESSER Charge...
... ie. 10 Km over....
3. They'll agree to dropp it to 15 KM over... which is a $45 fine and NO... i mean NO points....

you walk away having 30 days to pay $45 and no point deductions.....

Well ... I believe most of the people speed ... even my mom who told me not to speed and she speeded herself ...
I think the people who set the speed limit are jerks ... (city planner ?)
how can you drive on Bayview with only 40km/h limit ... yah there's a school on the roadside ... but I never see any children there ...

anyways ... I think the best way to avoid getting speeding tickets is to be alert all the time ...
look around with the mirrors ... they're not decorations ...

yeah I don't think there is anything wrong with speed limits....

I mean if you want to race or play around, you got to risk being caught...that's the price for speeding....

What if there is a school on Bayview (4 lane street), so it's technically a 40 km/h zone but it's the weekend (no kids)... To the south is a 60 road and to the north is a country road...
This 40 rule obviously applies...but how logical is it? I have yet to see anyone go 40 there...except maybe Sunapollo when he tries...
