Got ticket for smoke licence plate cover...what to do?

ok well my friend got pulled over tonight in chinatown by a cop. the cop said he couldnt see his front plate because he has a smoke plate cover (Purchased in Wal-Mart for $5.95 last yr). The cop took his driver's licence and insurance paper to his criuser and came back with a $110 ticket for illegal plate cover. The cop told my friend to take a picture of the front end after he removed the plate cover and bring it with him to the court. SO i am like why the f**k you give him a ticket in the first place? he could take off the cover take a picture then put the cover back on?
Since i dont have any experience on this sort of ticket, can someone tell me what is the best to do?

a) plead guilty and pay the fine (but would it increase his insurance premium next year)

b) plead not guilty and wait for a court date? and what he should say in the court?

my friend said on the back of his ticket, there's 3 options

3 options:
1. plea of guity
2. to plead guilty with an explanation
3. trial option - do not mail

i'd say take it to court. the best thing to do is argue for it.. dont forget cops have better things to do than to go to court.. even if they do.. judges are getting sick of these "mod" cases and would probably throw it out.. even if they dont' they your friend can ask the judge "what is reasonable?"

take the plates off and take a picture of it and take it to court and after u can put them back on.
if they confiscate them then buy new ones..
i got clear ones and i havent had a hassle since.
it all depends on the cop anyway. there isnt a thing in the book that says he cant give u a ticket

just leave it on-fight the ticket. it all depends ont he cop
some dont give s**t .
come on i have 7 colour changing lights -had it for the front driving lights and now i moved it to the lisence plate lights. i never got a tieckte. i just moved it cause they're not sincronized fro some reason. i'd get in major s**t for that one.. either that or the cops just don't know wht to think of it

well i think clear license plate covers are okay (not tinted)... haven't had any trouble with them so far, just have to clean them up every gas fillup (use them gas-station squeegies)... heck they sell those clear ones at the ministry! i bought them for a freaking 25buck rip... but at least i have receipts from the ministry (square one) to show the cops if ever i get pulled over

Honestly, just go to court and tell them that you took it off... I had a ticket for having blue license plate lights, took them off after I got the ticket, told the prosecutor that and they dropped the charges. Save yourself $110 bucks.

fight it in court, tell them you didn't know b/c they sold it at Walmart....and tell them you've taken the cover off since then, and bring a picture...they'll prolly drop it...if not atleast they'll reduce the fine!

i took a look at the packaging the plate covers from walmart were in and there's a little warning that says "may not be legal in your state/province"... ah well f-it, i have a pair on my car (but from the ministry)

btw, i think crappy tire sells NOS/ZEX nitrous... isn't nitrous illegal to use on the roads? yet crappy tire sells them

just a side note, no this will not effect your friends insurance - there was no driver infraction, so they cannot increase the premium for any reason ....

S**t I have smoked plate covers!!!

I hope I dont get in S**t for them. If I get pulled over I will plead with the cop and tell him I didnt know and I will take them off right away so he doesnt give me a ticket.

It is bullS**t though, Isnt there more important things to be taking care of than smoked plates.

Good Luck.

it should be fair enough if the plates get dirty to the point where the plates can't be read anymore... just make sure your tinted plate covers are clean and the popos shouldn't hassle ya...
