If you are accepting orders and payments online, make sure you set up a secure site, with 128-bit encryption, cause honestly no one these days will send out credit card information online unless the site is equipped with that encryption.

paypal also has a full shopping cart and payment service that it offers to premium members..... you can even build a store off their templates or whatever they call it...... their shopping cart and payment features are quite professional.... the other options and services they offer seem a bit ghetto........ take a look at their site for the details..... hope this helps a bit.....

I strongly suggest you to find a company to do it. They'll do everything for you if you just tell them what you want. But it will cost you quite a bit if you want to set up a really professional e-commerce site.
If you want to do it yourself.
- You have to develop the site (It's a lot more than builing simple homepage using front page)
- to develop the site you will definately need at least some knowlege of some form of web programming(ASP, ASP.NET, CGI, PHP, JSP, or CF etc...) as well as designing skill
- Find a payment gateway that will process the credit card
- Find a hosting company.
If you decided to do it yourself, never try to get a dedicated line and host it locally in your store unless you have a administrator that can ensure the security of the server. Otherwise you might get into legal problem if you happened to leak some personal information. Plus a dedicated line cost a lot.
If all of these seems to be more hassle than what it's worth that try looking into more simple solution such as yahoo store.

If you want something professional, I can get it done for you for 1000-5000 bucks.
it will be customized or designed to your liking.
From what i heard, this is the price that floats around. I'm not doing it, but a friend.

depends where ur hosting it too...
asp vs jsp vs php vs static html
that will determine what kind of tools you use..
it's true..unless ur doing a static site, you don't want to do it yourselves!

nah, just the 'flash intro' part...
flash intro has been dead for few years now, LOL. I would get a company to do it. My company houses their own web servers, but the encrytion key is expensive. Also you will need to get some kind of shopping cart program that is not cheap. Unless you are like us and write the whole thing with database scripts. That is how we get the orders in. But since we have our own database server, it helps too. It would be easier if you got someone to do it for you, unless you want it to be a very simple website.

IMHO...fastest way to deploy something like this is using Microsoft products....(asp)
Get all the transactions done using a database backend (SQL Server) via stored procedures... Should be pretty safe (well, after it's patched).
Not only that, you can use this database to do your current inventory and tie everything together with store front and web front...
And with this, you can print off an inventory list for your customers pretty quickly...Without having to change prices in many places!

those sites have been around for more than 1 yr... not to mention PiNK wants an e-commerce site... it's all about immediate access. flash intro, especially now with server costing premium, is waste of resource and time.
