That's an 8700rpms(after tuning) redline 1.6 with bolt on's and tuning.
1 1.7 getting 145-150Whp is not far fetched in the least. The key to most of the power is fuel management, ignition timing and cam timing.

A D17A1 or A2 can make 170Hp with good port work New postons, cam, cam gear, bolt on's and progrmmable Ignition timing and controlled fuel ratios.. and a fair bit of time on the dyno tuning it all..
150-157 or so can be done through parts and street tuning. (butt dyno)
Everyone always neglects dyno-tuning in their modification. They just opt for replacing parts and not actually "tuning" anything.
170HP N/A civic would run about $7000CAD to do..whereas for about the same price you can have 200HP and fair bit more torque with a bolt-on turbo kit and upgraded fuel system. ... Proper N/A modding is crazy $$$

170 without spending an insane amount of money..
It'd be another $5000 at least to eek any more out because the engine would need to be fully balanced and the valvetrain upgraded and reinforced and another $1200 on new bearings, another $700 on fasteners to keep it all together.. Not to mention the lighter flywheel, new clutch yadda yadda...
170hp with reasonable money .
Probably about 240-250 if you wanna dump $30K into it

ok guys i apologize, and yeah it is possible,
what i thought is... just P&P the head and exhaust.. i was going to say thats bogus, but if your going to go ALLMOTOR and all out... yes it is achievable...
and yes i noticed that the LX coupe mine has a better low end thean the SIR coupe ( EK MODEL )
but highend that sir would rape me...
i apologize... but everyone was saying P&P the head... and exhaust... no one mentioned the whole deal...
there is this guy Tony the TIGER with a toda powered GSR... that car is insane- all motor with over 220HP at the wheels!
ohh yeah not to mention your running a SOHC over a DOHC.
i believe a DOHC has way better response to that stuff, the SOHC is doable but just more money spent.

Yes, modding new cars for power doesn't make sense. Why? Because:
1) Void of warrenty. Why didn't you just buy a used car to start the project then?
2) Ridicious costs. For all that money spent, you could have bought a faster car, that has better EVERYTHING. And warrenty intact. 170HP? For $7000 job, you could have easily bought a 200HP RSX-S with 6-speed. And better suspension.
Unless you have sponsorship, don't bother.....

i agree... its worthless and a waste of money unless your loaded....
even people who are loaded are smarter.
why waste on a SOHC?? when a DOHC is way better!
remember 2 cams is better then 1
hehehe
