Rep Power: 0 HELP: 2001 Civic Owners Manual
Does anybody have 2001 Civic Owners Manual? If so, what does it say in the gas part? I lost mine, but I thought I read 89 or up...
Anyway, today I put in 87, since the gas was so expensive. About an hour later, CHECK ENGINE line came on.. f**k.. I hpoe it's the shitty gas, not the tranny going again!!

Rep Power: 0 i highly doubt its 'cause you put a lower octane gas in your tank.
also.. i believe our engines are meant for 87 octane..
even though i used 89 and switched to 91 now.
plus... for ex.
87 octane 72.5
89 octane 77.5
91 octane 82.5
at 40 litres ...
87 octane - $29
89 octane - $31
91 octane - $33
you aint gonna save much.... but i guess it does in the long run.
like after 100 fill ups.. you'll save the 200 plus bucks... and this is on the count of an estimate 40 000 clicks
i've mixed octanes b4.. and the engine light never came on.... so hopefully, it's nothign serious....

Rep Power: 0 I have very little warrenty left.... see, what I am concerned with is that it breaking it down, as soon as I pass the 100,000km mark.. which will happen by the summer. I'll be damned if I have to spend the money to buy another tranny.
As for the $20G budget, that's cool.. I've sort of been pricing things out.. I can get a Corolla.. fully loaded.. with leather.. digital compass.. sunroof.. etc etc etc.. for low 20's.. same with Jetta 1.8T with tiptronic.. there are defiintely options.
The Civic does have good resale, so I might be able to pull it off. We'll see what happens. I sincerly want to keep my car, but not if the tranny's this bad. I'll have to wait and see what exactly the problem is first though, before jumping into conclusions.

Rep Power: 0 I usually put in 91+ octane..
Honestly man, I think it's the trainy again. My brother had the car out a while ago, and he said when it put it in Drive, it refused to go in.. had to do it again, he said. I didn't think much of it.. but I'm betting that's the problem.
I have about 6,000km left before it hits 100,000km.. that's when my powertrain warrenty is done. Need to get to the bottom of it prior to that.

Rep Power: 346 You guys that are running anything more then 87 octane in your car are wasting your money. You don't get any additional power unless your car is tuned to generate a LOT more power. High octane gas in an un-tuned engine is just a waste of money.
Your stock motor doesn't have the timing and compression to take advantage of the higher octane fuel. Running higher octane then the car is meant to use, can in time, ruin your 02 sensor and cat. convertor. A much bigger concern is unburned fuel and fuel additives building up in the combustion chamber, which in time will score your piston, and piston walls, causing a premature wear in your motor, and burning your valves.
Also Car & Driver or Motor Trend did a octane test. They ran several cars and found that using higher octane on cars that don't need it is a waste of money and found a loss in HP.
Anyways.. back to the original question.... Double check and make sure your gas cap is on tight. If it isn't, it'll throw a CEL. And also get to the dealership as quick as you can because if it is a major problem, your powertrain is still covered under warrenty.

Rep Power: 0 So does anybody actually have a 2001 manual? I just want to see what it says.. cause it tells you exactly what kind of gas to use.
I thought it said to use 89 or higher.. if I am not mistaken. Could somebody check it out?

I had full serve at Pioneer gas station yesterday.. and the jackass didn't put the gas cap back on properly. Hence the CHECK ENGINE light.. arrrrrgh.. what a heart attack.
Honestly, i was just about to scrunge up some cash for a 2003 Toyota Corolla Sport, 2003 Toyota Maxtrix XR Supercharged or 2003 Volkswagon Jetta 1.8T GLS.... was gonna put my car in the Auto Trader too..
Oh well. Keep dreaming

Ya man.. you gotta look out for that. When ever I go to a Full Serve gas station, I always make sure the dude clicks it more then 3 times.
Oh and out of the cars you just listed, I'd go for the 1.8T
