insurance rates can go up or down depending on the insurer - its not a set 50% or 300% across the board - it all depends on your insurer and the type of risk you are - you may not get hit at all or you may get hit big time, depending on the risk and the class you fall in - You may see rates begining to be capped by the government as they are starting to get out of control (anyone remember Bob Rae and the NDP)

well. the corolla is under my dad and mom. no accidents, no parking tickets for 30 years, with a 9 star rating.
From 600 to 1800.
I don't think they fit into the high risk category and they've gotten that price already.
???? so i'm basically confused already.. I guess everyone post some of their quotes when they get! =)

YA.. girls get unfair rates!.. .. very low compared to guys.
There are talk about how women don't get the same EQUAL treatment as men do. wage, benefits etc. Well, i don't see them complaining about their LOW insurance rate!

so far, i called my insurance broker for my civic and asked them to insure my corolla + civic + house.
They quoted me 260 for the corolla for 6 months to it's in sync with my civic insurance.
turns out, i get a total of 2600 for all 3.

Do you even know what the terrorist exclusion is??? by he sounds of it you don't - I don't see how its funny - the reason your rates are so high is partly becuase of sept 11th...i don't see how its a"bullshit" excuse - before you shoot your mouth of you know what your talking about
Practically every type of insurance company has been affected by Sept. 11. Thus all forms of insurance have had some sort of increase in premiums. Even the company I work for which is non-profit and insures Healthcare institutions across Canada has had to implement premium increases.
There is a trickle effect also, one insurance company has to raise rates because their re-insurer has raised rates and that company's insurer/re-insurer has done so also....and so forth.

I agree but the terrorism exclusion was not added until the events of sept 11th - thus if a terroist attack where to happen again and somehow effect the auto industry in Ontario, this exclusion would excluded damage done by the attack - and then costs would be lower and premiums would be lower - I just can't stand it when people say insurance is a rip off - True, insurance can be expensive but so can accdients and injuries....you forget that if you have an accdient insurance is there to take care of both your property damage and you injuires - and 9 times out of 10 the injury portion of a claim is more expensive - THAT is whay your premiums are so expensive - check your policy rate breakdown and see where the premium goes - guarantee its in collision and your accident benefits section -
Be glad that you can shop around for insurance rates too. In provinces like Manitoba, where auto insurance is government regulated, you have no choice but to pay what they say or don't drive.

It still doesn't justify some of the increases. Parents have been driving for 30years +, no ticket, no accidents, no claims. Insurance increased 300%. I hardly drive and my premium would be 7-8000$ alone.
Accidents are expensives but that is not a basis for an argument. A person drives a 1994 model Vs a 2002 model. One pays 1000 and another pays 5000. Does driving a 1994 model mean that you'll cause less damage? Being a 30 year driver and the person gets a better car, does it automatically increase their possiblty of getting in to an accident? etc.
Insurance rates are high and CAN climb higher, simply because people don't argue or protest over it. People take it as it is. I guess if the insurance company presented you with a bill for 10k and put "increased terrorism", you would happily pay.
Insurance ARE a rip off because it is often miscalculated and overstated. Formulas used to calculate Insurance preimiums do not include factors such as how skilled you are as a driver, where you drive to, and your medical conditions.
My advice, don't get brian washed by the media, businesses etc. Keep an open mind and ask questions.

No offence, but you have no clue what your talking about .... "People take it and don't ask questions" - You do know that rates are regulated by the government - they basically say what can and cannot be charge - every year each insurance company applies tot he superintendant of ontario to have there rates approved - and if we had to rate each individual driver based on their "skill" level you'd have a policy 1 year later - there is simply no time to do that - and the fact that you have a cheaper car, yes parts may be less expensive but if your car is a crap car and can easily cause you or the person you hit serious injury then hell ya your insurance will be high - you tell people to ask questions but maybe you should.....just my 2 cents

Rate based on indvidual driver is time consuming BUT the companies simply do not bother since it will lower their profit.
I'm not telling anyone to ask questions, I'm suggesting that people should question actions that are unreasonable. Yeah, I am not an expert on Insurance policy or any other form of government policy but from my observations, MY rate is too high and the rate of other people are too high too, based on the car they drive and the type of person they are. etc.
I see your side of the story, but Ijust don't agree
