OT: I got NForce2 boards in (plus Video Card prices)
Actually the 9000/9000PRO which use a R250 GPU is only DirectX 8.1 compatible. It is a popular misconception by ATI to name that card 9xxx, since its performance lags the 8500 and only matches it in DX8 support. The R300 GPU is the only one that supports DX9, that will be offered in the upcoming 9500 and current 9700.
The R250 GPU in the 9000-series is identical to the R200 in the 8500 with some cost cutting efforts to make the card affordable (e.g. such as being only able to process one texture unit per pipe vs. 8500s ability to do 2).

There are still plenty of 8500 boards from 3rd party manufacturers like Hercules, Sapphire, from what I've seen. They are clocked slightly lower at 250 than ATI's, but that can be remedied.
