to clear everything up. what is power shifting? i know of double clutch, down shifting and heal-toe, so whats power shifting exactly, ppl call things different names. clarify.

its when you shift without using the clutch...
u just rip it into the next gear...
if you do it quick enough, fast enough, and at the right time...
its smooth...so there is no clutch lag or drop...after a certain rpm its possible to do so...
only for racing...i don't suggest you try unless ur comfortable enough with your ride...

i thought you just dont take your foot off the gas to keep revs high.

i know theres a point where you dont need clutch but thats serious grinding if you miss

Yup!
finally you guys know what i'm talking about...

keep the revs high, and your foot on the gas...
no drop in rpm...

yeah u'r gears will grind...and after awhile u won't be able to shift outta them...so u gotta know your car inside out before you attempt...

i heard some guy was racing his Stang...and he power shifted...but missed the timing and his tranny fell out...

yea... that's wat i thought too... isn't that power shifting? cuz u can only shift gear w/out clutching is when u hit 3rd gear and up... and ur not even suppose to do that she!t unless u have like a million years experience with ur car...

i've done it, but i back off the throttle just a hair to give the guts a chance to catch up..
safer and easier than keeping it F/T

Yea I know what you talking about. You mean that you shift without using the clutch, but you can only do this if you know the exact RPM to shift at or else you can grind some gears. I know a guy that does it to his GTI, pretty fast stuff if you know what you're doing. He told me that it has to be exact 100's of RPM or else it'll mess up.

Just to clear things up

power shifting ------ You still use the clutch except the difference is you ont take your foot off the gas pedal, you very quickly kick your clutch while your RPM is in redline or just below redline. I have done it numerous times and it does help when racing.

That's what I do all the time when I down shift to pass cars. Pretty hype cause it doesn't slow down the car at all and the RPM remains, a slight lag but not noticeable. I notice it because I watch my RPM gauge when I do this. Never done it while shifting up though...

Now I'm confused

I agree Sirokai, that's what makes it so confusing. I thought you guys were talking about shifting without using a clutch, but by your definition, that's just shifting without letting your revs drop isn' it?

From what I know, power shifting IS shifting without using the clutch. Double clutching is something totally different.
