cheap/quality bikeracks in GTA?
where should I go?
I'm not too fond of the idea of carrying bikes at the back/top of the car, but figure I'd need one eventually.
any good place to look for a good sturdy bikerack for a car?

Try bikezone on Lakeshore in Port Credit.

Hey, I'm in the market for a roof rack also. I looked at other options like a trunk rack or hitch rack but I didn't like them. Trunk rack looks flimsy and could possibly damage paint on trunk area, while hitch rack involved welding a hitch to the back of my car -- ugly!
I'm interested in a good durable rack, so mainly looking at Thule or Yakima. They have the reputation of making the best racks, although they are quite expensive. I full set up would set me back around $500.
Let me know what you find. I hate loading my bike in the trunk now that I've got a sub... makes it a very tight squeeze back there!

I'm guess you meant "cheap but quality" rather than "cheap quality"!
IMHO, there isn't any bargain in these area. The more you are willing to pay the higher quality the rack will be.
Trunk mount is the least expensive but it also the least stable. The better ones tend to have more straps and do not allow the frame to move around as much than less expensive ones. A salesman once told me you can expect to find marks on painted surface after 2 years of "typical weekend" use.
Hitch mount are sturdy but of course you need a hitch receptacle first, unless you already haul'in sea doo / dirt bike / camper there is the extra cost you have to consider. You have to accept how the rear look with the permanent hitch.
With these two you also have limited access to the trunk when the "load" is there.
Roof mount is the most expensive option and it offers the versaility of mounting different "carrier" other than a bicycle carrier. Ski? Canoe? Kayak? Extra cargo box? Basket? they can be fitted onto the base rack. You have full access to the trunk but not necessary the sunroof.
The draw back is you have to have the strength to mount it up "there".
The more you're willing to pay, the more versality is there ...
The good brands are
Saris
Thule
Yakima

Thanks for the info guys... I like the idea of a roof rack also. Don't want to weld a hitch and a trunk rack is just too flimsy.
What racks do you guys have?
Anyone bought from Rackattack in Toronto?

Yeah I would suggest a roof rack since it's easier to load up the bikes and it's more sturdy. Where do you guys usually go riding?
