Brutal truth of springs w/out good shocks
<SIGH> FedEx late on next-day delivery, won't get Koni's in until Monday, but Hi Tech would extend their hours for me to finish up my upgrade and fix the rubbing problem on the springs base as posted before.
But despite all the people saying "ride is bouncy but bearable, just a bit rough" it's just not worth it. I'm quite sure my stock shocks are still intact, just not agreeing with the drop. The ride is suicidal on Toronto roads!! Over 401 in the Yorkdale area, over Kennedy Rd around Pac Mall, over Markham Rd, over McNicoll, all freakish bumps and potholes everywhere!! If anyone's tempting to drop their car without going with Koni's, think twice.
Some of you may have springs w/out shocks, I agree it's "bearable", but definitely not worth the agony. I'd say spend the grand and change--that you'd have to spend eventually--now, and get a better ride. Of coz, not that I know yet how much better it rides on the Koni, but I'm sure the bounce and rebound would be gone by then.
Just a little vent from being grumpy coz I couldn't get my Koni's installed this weekend.

Well, $1000+ is a large sum, but you aughta know that doing a drop on stock shocks will eventually wear them out. In fact, even if you don't drive your car, the shocks may still wear and leak due to being compressed all the time.
I just look at it this way, if you have the money, or even plan to eventually spend the money. $1000 now and $1000 later but agony for a year, why not choose the first? Of coz, actually having that amount to spend may be a problem, or if you'd think it'll be cheaper next year, that's another thing also... My point is though, if you know you'll need an A in the finals to pass the course coz you may just do a D on the midterm, wouldn't you prefer to do a B on the midterm so that you only need a C for the finals? Even though B is hard to get for cramming one day before the midterm (which, admit it, we all do/did in school) Haha...

well.. here's my idea... put on spring... worn out the stock shocks... then get koni with the springs... that way.. it would give u some time to gather the sum.. plus... u have made good use of the stock shocks... my 2 cents...

I don't know why the spring settings are so harsh on some of these aftermarket ones... I could sleep like a baby in mine if I wasn't driving... well myuki passes out in it all the time...
I think I missed your origional post, but I'm lowered on Eibach Sportlines w/stock shocks and the ride is better than stock...I don't know what you're lowered on or who did it, but if they didn't trim the bump stops then you would have a rubbing problem...most shops don't even know how to install springs properly or take the time to trim the bump stops....IMO DIY for everything except engine swap...haha

i don't know.. i have the pro-kit and it's freakin low.. i have a one finger gap in my back tires... sure it's nice and all on flat roads.. but you ever try taking a sweeping turn on a bumpy road with stock shocks?.. now that's some scary ****... my advice.. get new shocks/struts as soon as you can... doesn't matter how well the stock ones ride now, it's a fraction of what it could be.. Riding with lowering springs on stock shocks does suck. With my neuspeed sports I think my shocks are blown. I've had them for about 2 months and the ride is total crap now. I think downtown toronto roads & construction killed my shocks prematurely.
I can bear it with just myself in the car but with 4 ppl the ride is bouncy. Never harsh though, I think neuspeeds are pretty soft.

it's not so much harder, but you def don't have that "stuck to the ground" type feeling.. kinda like if the bump was a little bigger, then you'd be flying off the road kind of feeling.. on smooth roads, it's fine. on big dips.. well.... that's bad news too...
i got neuspeed race springs on mine. with stock shocks...... i gotta admit my ride is kinda hard and stiff... but not bouncy...... i can live with it..... although i felt my friends car with konis on..... whoah... wut a difference... ima save up during winter time and get them as soon as i lower my car again next summer... It's just rough. I know what you guys mean by the handling improvement. I enjoy that too. But unexpected bumps and potholes on the roads will give you a heart attack! My purpose of posting this wasn't to annoy ppl who has springs on stock and don't mind the rough ride, but to warn ppl who're planning to do the upgrade that it's going to be a much stiffer ride, and the car's response to a rough road will not be as dampened as stock.
I'm pretty sure my stock shocks are still good, as I've tested each corner.
