18" are NOT just for show. I just sold a set of 17" with 215/45/17 and upgraded to 215/40/18.
Guess what-no ride difference, actually i changed from Kumho to Falken and think my ride quality
has actually improved with the 18s. Trust me, 18s are the way to go, 17s are just too small!!!

and they're heavier and they make you slower... and now there's even less rubber height-wise with more chance of damaging a rim... 18's aren't for everybody...
