OT: Which DSL ISP do you use?

I cancelled with Sympatico because of their bandwidth quotas; used up 5GB in under a week

I just signed up with AccessVantage (FOB ISP), and well, I hate it. I get 'stuck' or disconnected every couple of hours... When I wake up, I have to reset the cheap Daewoo modem by turning it off/on, and it's so hot.... I think I'm going to cancel ASAP. The tech support are so fobby, and they don't know much.

I'm thinking THT.net now.... Anyone else?

I'm with AccessV, I've also used Ipoline before... Trust me, if one DSL carrier drops for you, it'll drop for everyone else. The problem is your line wiring in your house, and not the modem. Although if you're brave, you can try and get an Alcatel modem... They're hell expensive, but are what these aftermarket modems are built from.

I have a GVC modem which I got from my own channels. I've also tried an Alcatel modem and the Daewoo modem that you have, all the same. You can check by unhooking all your phones in the house and leave only the DSL modem plugged in. I'll bet you'll get a much longer lasting signal. I notice that some older phones will also cause the DSL to offhook. I.e., my bro when speaking for an extended time on his 10 year old Sony phone will disconnect the DSL 50% chance.

Don't bother with Rogers, as they also will implement a rate hike (if not already). Full broadband connection w/out limit is like $70 from Rogers now.

Also, AccessManager software sucks. Get a Linksys or DLink (former is better than latter, get from Costco for $150) router and it'll automatically reconnect and you can even put multiple computers on it.

BTW, I do work as an IT consultant so you can believe what I'm saying.

I had a REAL scweet deal with Bell Sympatico.... I was paying $29.99 before the rate hike, and after the rate hike, I would only be paying $34.99... I get free modem rental

I think I've figured out what's causing me to 'freeze'..... not sure, will have to do some more investigating, but I think it's when my monitor is degausing?! When I turn it on, it degausses (Viewsonic)..... and all the lights on the modem turn off (well, most of them).... This happened with my Sympatico modem too, but I only lost connection for like 3-5 seconds...... Guess the Daewoo doesn't like it..... Hmph
