XM radio in Canada...
question is this...I have deck, I purchased in the states, its a Pioneer deck that is XM ready...
now that XM is gonna be available in Canada tomorrow, can I use a pioneer XM tuner from the states too? does it have to be purchased here...does it have to be "canadian" pioneer xm tuner?
thanx

Hey, If you want XM to work nicly with your headunit you need an XM antenna and an XM Tuner board.
I have both for my pioneer setup and DO NOT THINK TWICE ABOUT GETTING EM
I paid $30 for the antenna and $200 for the tuner with shipping (manged to get it in tax free)
IT does not have to be a canadian tuner, there is no difference. Same satellite same repeaters. Some channels are blocked to "canadain listenres" but thats only if you sign up for a Canadian account. I think XM is legit here as of Jan 1st but that doesnt matter.
XM now has there repeaters working WELL in Toronto so there are no signal cuts under long tunnels or downtown in finacial or hospital disctrict (all tall buildings) I Can get reception in places the sun barly touches like bay st. Call 1800 XM RADIO to activate and just tell em 123 civic st buffalo NY or something. I used my cousins address but they dont send any bills w/ credit card.
Get it and thank me later, if you need more details or help feel free to pm me.

I've had XM for a couple of months now (using the U.S. service though) with no complaints. I went with the U.S. version as I didn't want the Canadian content crap channels that come with the Canadian version. I've got an add-on unit (Roady2) that I use with my stock deck.

If you want to go the cheaer route, I got my brother a deal on a SkiFi2, its free if you prepay for 3 months of service and stay for minimum of 6. You do require an american adress for that though.
If you dont mind taking out your headunit and an additional xm tuner, there small and do a HELL OF A LOT more then pioneer head units with XM
my brothers has the following advantages over mine. Pause live radio and rewind up to 30 minutes (acually can skip track by track like a cd player not like tivo or tape players) it has a stock ticker that says stocks, hockey scores, and when the next game is on.
the screen is HUGE and easy to read, and the unit cna tell you when your favorite song comes on any channel
The built in FM transmitter is also pretty for my brothers stock bose system in his Acura 3.2CL type S
Only advantage to running it through your headunit is better integration, and supurb sound quality.

You should just be able to use any address in the U.S. since its all billed to your credit card. I used my aunt's address in Michigan, but nothing is sent to her address, as all billing is done to my credit card. I signed up on the XM U.S. website which does not give any Canadian address options, although if you signed up using their 800 number, you might be able to use your Canadian address.

the only difference between american and canadian versions is certain channels are banned from either side
Canadian listners will have a few channels and thats the difference.
just get the american account and dont worry about hardware
picked up an XM radio unit from best buy this week, subscribed to the canadian xm, and i cant complain, i compaired the channel listing to the US version and its pretty much the same, all the same hip hop, thats all i really care about, though the rock stations can improve, alotta classic stuff..not much newer music, ...ah well always edge 102 for that.
