need help from my GTA hommies

Hey,
I bought a Panasonic CQ-HR1003U deck for my bro-in-law last year for this bday and he fuked it by getting some water on it. It plays but the ghost screen, nor remote seem to be able to control it. I did the install and I'm 100% sure I didnt mess that up.

I was womdering if there was someone in the GTA/southern ON area that has the same unit and might be able to meet up w/me to try to diagnose if its the faceplate, unit,or both.I would be more then willing to compinsate this individual with some sort of money or blue LED conversion.

If someone might think that water was not the problem (because we only suspect this since he had this sunroof open and then it stopped working) and it might be a known problem then please share.

THX

if it was only a bit of water, i doubt it couldve hurt it that much.. i had a friend that had the same style deck.. maybe not the same year but the faceplate was defective and he got it replaced under warranty..

try bringing it back and see what the ppl say..

If it plays the cd's, I would assume that it would be the faceplate that's faulty.

shaman i remember pming u bout parts when u were selling it. It does play CDs and the radio, but no controls thats y i think its just the face. Sometimes when I just press random stuff it will start to raise the volume and wont stop. Shaman, Im gonna try to get a face to test and if that doesnt work, ill give u a shout.

I took the thing apart and put a VOM to some parts to test then but I think its one of the ICs that control encoding/decoding between the face and the unit.
Warrenty is gone already, I dont remember exactly what year model this is, but I think its something like 2-3 yrs old.

Harness is 100% fine, I hooked it up to a seperate power source just to get it running and still the same problem.

DragonAce is an unknown quantity at this point
if yer looking to get it fixed go to selective sound in 'sauga
derry and millcreek
tell Davis that Marty sent ya
he has a good place he deals with for repairs

btw, swapping the face plate could do damage to the good one if something is cacked internally in your main unit

it's definatly the faceplate. Anything that has to do with controls on the face or your remote has nothing to do with the unit itself or the harness.

The water has fvcked the faceplate up. Do you have warranty on the deck? Cause if you do... go back to where you bought it from and tell them the faceplate crapped out for no reason... DO NOT tell them you got water on it.

no, warrenty is done. I have checked the internal conponents, The problem is in the face, and I think one of the ICs gave due to the water. Display, sounds, CDs, ect all work, so that means the control IC for nav went, I just need to isolate them under power to see which one has to go.
