no its not illegal, how can people replace their muffler or exhaust piping when its rusted through if its illegal? there is no law saying you can't change your exhaust to after market ones, unless its a new law that i dunno of. But polices can give you a ticket if the exhaust produce excessive noise.

You can get a ticket for putting on an after market exhaust because its not a muffler that muffles noise anymore, its a resinator that amplifies sound.

Factory resinators usually restrict airflow that usually dampens sound actually.

And many aftermarket mufflers, depending on construction can be just as quiet as the factory..............................

No, there is no actual dB number here. The charge is up to the officer's discretion in terms of what he or she seems as "excessively loud".

hollywood style tips (sticking out past the bumper) are illegal.

anything that is straight through (fireball style) will most likely get a ticket...

its very subjective...there is no standard to measure in terms of what you will and won't get a ticket for.

i have a magnaflow exhaust.. with a magnaflow resonator........with a 2.25 custom mid-pipe.... also a hp full header.. also with a hp high-flow cat... technically a resonator o_O.

been pulled over countless times... never had trouble with my exhaust... being with an officer ever asking me or giving me a ticket for excessive loud noise.

even if they do.. it's easily fought off... you can msg me and i can let you know. dont want no popos reading this up... except for the officer we have on this forum

cant go wrong with magnaflow... i love the tone that i have... not too ricey.. haha

My 5zigen (yeah, the real one and not cheap ebay) is very noticable .. sticks out abit from the rear bumper... large 4" slanted tip.

I haven't gotten a ticket yet since its a really quiet exhaust. However, its gotten abit louder since I installed it a month ago.. (can someone explain that?)

I was pulled over for nothing and had my magnaflow cat-back on and the officer didnt say anything about that. He just gave me a little lecture on my driving style.
