Taillight Tinting
Was wondering if this is legal or not. Also wondering who from CanEast has done it. Right now, I'm trying to decide whether to do it to the stock tails or get aftermarket TYC ones and do it to those. I gotta figure out if its legal first though so if anyone knows, it would be nice
I know we tried with R1Style, talk to him about it, we messed up with the tinting so its not finalized and not complete yet....as far as i know its legal. But I would get a second set and work on them and do it...IMO

Well, i've never been harrassed by the cops, and as long as the lights when turned on are still visible, you shouldn't have any problems...
but seriously, how can you mess it up? it's just like spray paint, a few thin layers and bob's your uncle!
oh yeah, but as your doing it, remember that it drys darker. Here's what mine look like

Anyway, I smoked them out and they were perfect. I then decided I wanted to clear coat them and that's where I screwed up. I started clearing them at APRboy's house in his garage and it was freezing cold and the clear coat started hazing. So yeah... If i had left them, they would have been fine but it's when I tried clear coating them during the cold winter weather is when they got fvcked.
But I'm not worried, these were an extra set of tail lights and I'm just gonna sand it down and redo them once it gets warm again.
BTW... it is illegal to smoke them out. If you go to dark you'll get harrassed by cops and possibly get a fine. Make sure you just tint them slightly so light is still visible through them.

Why would they haze? Don't they start to haze during the drying process, then become fully clear after it is completely dried?
I dunno these things, never painted anything... If you don't clearcoat it, wouldn't it have a flat, dull texture to the surface?

during the clear coat process they hazed, maybe due to the cold weather or what not, i don't have a degree in chemistry..but i do know that the cold weather did affect the clear coat drying process

Thanks for the info guys. I dont plan on doing mine to dark, i just want to get rid of the bright red from the tails cuz it doesnt go with my black and blue theme. I was thinking, maybe if i use actual window tint on them, it may produce more light and I wouldnt get harrased by cops. Something like 35% tint or something light. What do you guys think?

And to top the direct sun on the tails off (if you smoke too darkly), its great if you add on a thin/thick layer of salt/road grime..
my tails are usually the cleanest part of my car these days..
